"Sorry to interrupt....well, ok, I'm not really sorry.
Hi! I'm going to interrupt you, and there's not much you can do about this kind of advertising, so get used to it, dumbass. That's right, I'm calling you a dumbass. Why? Because I can. Dumbass. Enjoy the rest of the show."
I doubt it's temporary. With Tivo-style devices allowing people to slice out commercials, they're going to find other ways of sticking in advertisements. Discovery is doing it with their damned animations during shows going on about their annoying "When We Left Earth" show.
Yeah, the space program - interesting stuff as far as I'm concerned. But it's done up to get ratings. Every commercial break lead-in is all "OMG is he like totally going to die? Is the space program doomed? Is it going to kill my family if I don't keep watching?" And the other half of it makes me feel like I'm watching a show designed for 2nd graders.
Or who knows, maybe they're trying to push people to buy content online. With bandwidth caps being implemented, people are more likely to exceed those caps, thus providing even more monthly revenue to the telecomm companies.
