Dumbest question ever.

There's your answer. JulesMaximus is a teenager. I have no idea how old he is. 😛

I'm 37 wise guy.

Well, then act like an adult! 😀😛

Well, why would anyone ask the question? It's pretty obvious that the answer is 19. That's like asking how many inches are on a 12 inch ruler?

I hope you're really careful on the questions you ask on ATOT. I would hope that you never ask one that someone thinks is stupid.

And you have yet to put any intelligent response to any of my points. Until, then why don't you find somewhere else to piss.

I consider someone who is 19 years and 364 days a teenager. I consider someone who is 20 years and 0 days to be not a teenager. I consider anyone who is over 18 to be an adult.

So you're saying a person can be both an adult and a teenager? I think they're different and, thus, should be seperated, but you think they can be both and only based on the fact the number, grammatically ends with "teen"?
[/b]

what about the 15 year old that runs away from home and lives on there own, has a job, doesnt need any parents to help them, is that not adult? yes they are young but they are also taking on a very big challenge.

a person can be both an adult and a teenager. adult is the mannerisms by which they express their self, teen means nothing more then an age period they so happen to be a part of at one point in time

But, legally, the parents are still responsible for them.

And I don't agree with the mannerisms point. Take JulesMaximus for example. Claims he's 37, but isn't acting like an adult. So does that make him a teenager?

legally.... in america

that means jules is not acting ADULT what would make him a teenager is if he were between the age of 13-19, nothing more, nothing less.

I understand. It's in the grammatical sense then. From a categorization of ages, I view it this way:

0-18 months Baby
18 months to 3 year Toddler
4 - 11 Child
12 - 13 Pre-teen
14 - 18 Teenager
18+ Adult

You asked up until what age do you consider a person a teenage. Obviously the answer is 19. I read the article you linked to. They were correct in referring to the player who scored the winning goal as a teen.

I'm sorry that you took offense to my response. I just thought it was a ridiculous question.

I think in America, at least, most teens don't become adults until they've completed their first year of college (succesfully). Once you are on your own, and have to take responsibility for your own time and money, the adult tendencies seem to set in pretty quickly.

So if someone does not go to college then they will be a teen for the rest of their life. Umm ok.

Thirteen, is a teenager, not pre-teen. There are two common uses however, so context matters. As noticed in this thread, some people are referring to age. That's simple, you either are, or are not, a teenage, as defined by your age. If it has -teen at the end your a -teenager.

Then there is the maturity, as seen in the comments about JulesMaximus, where age isn't important.

Generally I think people are referring to age unless otherwise stated, like the article.

I mostly agree with this except the adult part. An adult is the legal drinking age where the person lives. 🙂

When the name of the number of years old that they are ends in the word "teen" then they are a teenager. When the word teen no longer appears as part of the name of the number of years old they are, then the term teen is no longer appropriate.

Well legally...you get all the rights and stuff at the age of 21...and most of the rights at 18. So, I'd say somewhere in between...maybe 20 just b/c that's the first non 'teen' number. But, I would hold that this isn't as much a matter of age as it is of maturity.

Sorry for taking so long to come back, and for the typo with the bold that I copied and pasted. I posted in a rush as someone came to my door.

Yes I am saying that someone who is 18 or 19 is BOTH a teenager and an adult. The problem is we have social definitions, gramatical definitions, and legal defintions. All three would put the teenager/adult border at a different location; they all disagree slightly. I allow for the disagreement. No one is one day a perfect teenager and the next day a perfect adult. There isn't a specific cutoff. Instead people gradually transition from teenager to adult.

The perfect example is the typical 19 year old college student. Sure at times (jobs, school, church) that person acts much like an adult. But through him/her in with 4 friends and suddenly that person often acts more like a teen (or even a child). That person has an internal struggle to meet the needs and demands of both the teenage life and the adult life. He/she is both.
