i had a funny experience with them recently.
i purchased a couple of things that i had to return and they didn't charge me the 15% restoking fee. i'm not sure if their policy changed or they just forgot. the people working there are retards though.

Doesn't anyone ever learn regarding CompUSA special sales? Every year they do some super-secret special sale on the day after Easter, or the day after Thanksgiving or the day after National Pickle Week or whenever the hell it is. And every year they mail out that's it going to be great and every year the no-life crowd sit there at 2 minutes to midnight hitting "Refresh" so they can be the very first to see the sale. Every year, 2 minutes later those people are here bitching about how worthless the sale was and every freaking year the EXACT SAME people get all hot and bothered about the next CompUSA sale because this is the one that's really going to be great. Get it through your head folks, CompUSA sales suck. They always have sucked, they always will suck.

This is a HUGE YMMV ...

Went to my local CUSA at lunch. Asked a sales rep what the deal was, he came back with a price list of items. He then had to correlate that list with what was in stock. Sales rep was helpful, but there was nothing great. Basically a waste of time for me.

Waste of Tim in Louisville. Only thing that the sales rep told to to look for was anything that had a red balloon attached to it as a Manager's special. There were 6 balloons, all laptops, the lowest being $1199

The discounts don't show up unless you actually have them punch the serial number into the computer. Most the sales associates know nothing about it. I went in and got the HSU sub for $200 and it was still marked at $400 on the shelf. The sales associate was suprised to see the price when it rang up.
I'm going back for a tv later today.

Went to the CompUSA in Parsippany, NJ, and they had the e-mail for the sale in the box by the entrance where the weekly flyers are usually stored, but with all the prices whited-out!! They said they have not had any of the really cheap merchandise from the real ad for months and that no other stores in the area had any either.

Well from the way they made it sound they seemed to act like it was charged when you bought the item. I could understand what they were saying if that was true but since most items are going to be found defective then I wouldn't hink this would have been a problem. One problem is tax though, can't get around that really unless you buy online, but even then you have shipping. You can find some great deals in retail stores when product first come out. Like when the new video cards came out they sold them at MSRP which we know isn't what they sold for online. So you could just go buy all the new video cards retail and sell them online to make quite a bit of extra cash for very little time.

Went there and mostly everything on sale was lcd tvs and hdtvs. I saw lcd tvs marked down between 300-1000. If you are looking for a flatscreen tv i would head over there but i wasnt so it didnt interest me.

I went there earlier today and have a good time laughing at the prices.
What a waste of time, it's more like up to 8% off than 80% off.
Some used display crap are $10 off, whoppeee.

Don't waste your time folks, don't be a sucker like me.

Why pay retail from them....

Well, the alternative is to purchase items from a B&M that does't charge restocking fees, and you end up purchasing a used, re-shrink-wrapped item instead. (A certain store who's twin initials that rhyme with with an insect that frequently is responsible for pollinating flowers comes to mind. Yes, I've witnessed it personally.)

So you have your choice, you really can't expect it otherwise, either pay a restocking fee when returning opened merchandise, with the expectation that buying shrink-wrapped means new, OR... have no expectation that what you are buying is actually new or not.

All things considered, I'd take the restocking fee, although I think that 10% is probably more appropriate.

The clearance is okay, I got a good deal on the Apple iBook G3 for $599. Specs are 800 Mhz, 256 mb, 14". Awesome deal. They are store displays, but they're still in great condition. Outside of the iBook, the other deals are okay. The iBook deal is the best.

15% is nothing compared to some places, when i worked for Computer Renaissance they charged as much as 25%. Not to mention the fact that you only had 7 days to return it. Talk about a horrible return policy, its no wonder I never buy things from a retail store.

HmmI happen to see the same deal. ibook G3 for 599 + tax but it was still in the box though. So don't know if it was store display or not. I didn't think that was such a good deal.
You're not in houston, are you??

Sometimes bargain hunting seems like a curse. On the quest to find my son the Apple I arrived at 9am expecting a crowd of laptop grabbing fools. Surprise--no line and no other customers in the store. Not good I thought and guess what--I was right--no deals except 25% some really old Wharfendale speakers.

Think I'll save this thread for the next time I feel I can't resist CompUsa's deals.

I despise Compusa. My company used to use their 'Corporate Sales' department for all of their purchases. Really its a desk with a salesmen at it who has to MANUALLY enter every SKU of stuff you want to purchase. Originally they would give you a discout of 10-20% for being a 'preferred' customer. Then they got rid of the discount but you still had to stand there while they entered everything. Man nothing like taking 30-45 minutes to check out. I just got fed up with them and buy everything online or go to Best Buy BM. Rewards Zone baby!!
