Well, the alternative is to purchase items from a B&M that does't charge restocking fees, and you end up purchasing a used, re-shrink-wrapped item instead. (A certain store who's twin initials that rhyme with with an insect that frequently is responsible for pollinating flowers comes to mind. Yes, I've witnessed it personally.)
So you have your choice, you really can't expect it otherwise, either pay a restocking fee when returning opened merchandise, with the expectation that buying shrink-wrapped means new, OR... have no expectation that what you are buying is actually new or not.
All things considered, I'd take the restocking fee, although I think that 10% is probably more appropriate.
