I'm a fairly new contact lens wearer and I trusted my optometrist with everything - he bought for me a certain brand name of lenses - a year's supply was about $150 which is really expensive for me. However, my year's supply is running down and I'm gonna come back next week for a checkup to update persecriptions, but I don't want to buy the lens through him since it seems expensive. So do I just have him recommend a certain brand and have him give me my perscriptions so I can go to this website and buy it? Or can I just find out my perscriptions and buy whatever brands I want? Since I don't know the process of finding the right brand and selecting the right perscriptions, can someone explain it to me? Thanks.

MindStorm,

yes, just have your optometrist write you a prescription for what you've been wearing, and you can get it filled anywhere...but it'll only be for what brand, power, etc.. that he prescribes.

Mindstorm,

You might want to check with your insurance... mine doesn't pay anything for the "fitting" of the contacts but does pay a certain amount on the actual contacts. Not quite a year's supply but enough for a good portion of the year.

This thread was most enlightening.
I'm just about to try the bi-focal Accuvue IIs. One-Hour Optical wants nearly $50/box.:|

slightly Off Topic:
Does anybody here wear the acuvue torics? I wore the Acuvue 2's but my astigmatism makes it not perfect for me...what do you think about the Torics, are they easy to use and do they work well?

I actually kinda liked the Acuvue 2's but the astigmatism thing made my monitor too blurry =(
