Some NV specific fixes:

- Improved shader speed (up to two times faster) for NVidia Geforce FX cards on very high settings
- Fixed fog bug with NVidia drivers
- Added support for NVidia NV40 chipset
- Fixed realtime shadows from blended trees
- Made improvements to lighting shaders on very high settings
- Fixed bug with lake reflections
- Added support fro PS3.0 shader profile

Complete List

-Added support for NVidia NV40 chipset
That little line is quite possibly more important than the dozens of rumours floating around about the NV40. Obviously these guys must actually have the card.

And yeah, better shader performance is always good. Some of the shader titles being released have been very slow, especially the console ports.

fyi there's not bias here; crytek didn't improve the shader performance of the "other" cards by "up to 2x"... i also linked to the complete list of fixes.

perhaps you can send them some flamemail for being "manufacturer biased" (heck they even have the nv "meant to be played logo" as well). 🙂

carmack just got one, and was quoted to say, ""I just got an nv40 and put it in my dev machine, and it is spectacular!" at his keynote speech at the GDC.. damn him, i want one!

Yeah I'm really looking forward to seeing what the new cards can do. 😎

Me too the next round of the ati v nvidia battle should be very interesting, I just hope the nv40 doesn't make as much noise as the nv30 did although I'm sure nvidia wouldn't make that mistake again! 🙂

I would like to see some numbers posted. If anyone has an FX 5900 or greater and FarCry (full version), please post the results. I'm curious as to how much of a speed improvement there is with this patch.

Ok Ill fire it up and try to get my fps and then apply the patch and see the difference.

Ok prelim benchmark of a given scene.

I ran through about 2 mins inside the carrier and ranged anywhere from 13fps to 83. I then quit. After I install the patch I will run through the same series and note any difference in speed. The 13fps scene is very reproduceable and this is what I will be looking at the most.

BTW this is at 1600X1200X32 with no aa and 1 lvl of af.

Ok at least at this res the performance is not 2x fasters. I went from 13-16 fps hehe in the same scene and really cant tell much of a difference in the others.
Maybe at a lower res you will see a 2x performance increase.

It never said 2x performance for FX cards, but rather 2x shader speeds. So overall you noticed a slight increase in performance, but I find it rather interesting that you chose 1600x1200 in FarCry. I'm not sure that any card can produce playable frame rates in that resolution, let alone with any AA or AF applied to it.

Thanks for sharing your observation of the before and after patch 1.1 performance.

Cainam, are those nV-specific or general fixes? I wonder if the first point is related to the fifth, and thus may apply to all cards....

well, the patch notes mention shader improvements twice:

Improved shader speed (up to two times faster) for NVidia Geforce FX cards on very high settings this, of course in nv specific

Made improvements to lighting shaders on very high settings this sounds like an overall fix for a specific shader function, so i would say they are 2 different fixes, tho i could be interpreting it incorrectly.

Spectacularly good or bad?

He says the NV40 (nVidia's latest card under development) recently installed in his computer would take two and a half years at best to find a game that would challenge it

Escept for a few select scenes the game generally plays between 30 and 50 fps at that rez. Sometimes peaking around 90 and a low of 8 fps in this cave. It is interesting to note when the slow downs occur. It is usually when the dynamic lighting says 3/3/3 or 2/2/2 whatever that means.

As for AA and AF. I really cant care less about AA when i am playing at that rez and AF I am never really noticed a difference between the settings.

1600X1200 no aa + af > 1280X1024 AA+AF

If Carmack said that, then obviously "2morrow" will be an interesting day.
I hate to see Nvidia being left behind. Competition is always beneficial....
