;)There is a married couple that live in a house on one side of a bridge, the bridge goes across a river and the wife's lover lives on the other side!

The husband has to go to a far town overnight for a business trip. The wife begs and pleads to go with him, for she knows she will be unfaithful if left alone.

He refuses, says she will only be a hindrance. So that night while he?s away she goes down to the boatman and gets a ride across the river to her lover?s house.

After a night of passionate love making... she realizes she must get home before dawn because her husband will be home soon after.

She decides to cut straight across the bridge to save time but an assassin is waiting to kill her!

So she goes down to the boatman...but she's unable to pay him, so he refuses to take her.

She runs back up to her lovers house and explains the whole situation and then asks for the money. He laughs and says. You got yourself into this mess. You get yourself out.

Furious, she decides to just make a dash for her house regardless of the assassin.

The assassin stabs her to death..............................

There are FIVE characters in this story. The husband. The wife. The lover. The boatman. And the assassin.

Who is most responsible for the wife?s death?
2nd most responsible?
3rd most responsible?
4th most responsible?
Least responsible?

Interersting question.

first whoever hired the assassin would be #1 (assuming the husband)
#2 would be the assassin
#3 would be the woman (she shouldn't have gotten herself into this mess/she shouldn't have been stupid enough to go across the bridge knowing an assassin was there)
#4 would be the wifes lover (he should have cared more for her life then he did, but had no direct involvment in killing her)
#5 would be the boat guy (he should have cared more for her life, but he was in fact a stranger so she could have been messing with him. This makes him slightly less responsible than the wifes lover)

Wife
Lover
Assassin
Boatman
Husband

I guess if the assassin was hired by one of these people, they would move up the list.

Husband - hired the assassin
Assassin - just doing his job, but he is the one who killed her
Lover - equally responsible for the affair, but refused to give her the money
Wife - see above
Boatman - maybe he should be put below the asssassin. What an asshole.

How did the wife know an assassin was waiting for her?

It's a guess, but as he/she is an assassin, someone had to hire him.

Anyone who doesn't put "assassin" and "wife" in the number 1 and number 2 slots needs to have their head examined.

It's called self-responsibility. But I wouldn't expect the socialists around here to understand. =p

Assassin - hired or not, the killer is clearly most responsible for the death
Wife - Created the situation and dashed across the bridge despite the assassin
Lover - The lover and boatman are fairly interchangeable. Both could have prevented the death.
Boatman - see above
Husband - No blame at all without further info (e.g. did he hire the assassin?)

I rank the Lover above the Boatman, because even knowing there was an assassin, he was unwilling to give her the money to ride the boat.

The boatman is completely innocent and should be #5 in any case.
Wife
Assassin
Lover
Husband
Boatman

Yes, but according to the timeline of the story she knew about the assassin before going to the boatman and lover. So I went on the assumption that she told both about the assassin. I put the lover first though because I feel it could be argued he has a bit more responsibility to the wife since he is her lover. The boatman is essentially a total stranger, but I think they are both fairly equal in guilt.
