Here's the deal with my situation. I just upgraded some hardware (motherboard + cpu) from an ECS k75sa PRO W/ ATHLON xp 1500+. My new specs are abit nf7-s 2.0 with barton 2500. But the new issue is that windows won't boot. Everytime i boot my computer, it conducts the tests and goes to a menu that says "Windows was not shut down properly, which of the following boot methods would you like to use." It gives me the options of Safe mode, Safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last known good settings, and normal boot. I've tried all of them, and they all make my computer restart. The screen turns blank for a few seconds and when it comes back up, I'm at the opening screen "Press delete to enter bios."

I've tried booting from the XP CD, and the same thing happens. It says "booting from CD and then takes me back to the "windows was not shut down properly screen." Could anyone offer any input as to why this is happening?

:)

Now I see your problem. You did a mobo transplant, and Windows is suffering from organ rejection. Reinstall Windows. :)

The menu that you keep being offered (Safe Mode, etc) is not from your WinXP CD, it's from your hard drive's existing WinXP installation, which is confused but attempting to run anyway. You need to go into the motherboard's BIOS menus and set it to boot from CD-ROM first. When it does boot from CD-ROM, you'll see a prompt saying "Press any key to boot from CD..." and then you press a key and it starts Windows Setup.

Be aware that if you reformat the hard drive, all the data is erased. If that's a problem, put your old mobo back in and get your data saved onto CDs or something before you proceed.

If you need a hand making your motherboard boot from CD-ROM, let me know and I'll dredge up the manual and give you a step-by-step rundown on how to do that.
