A friend of mine has a PC with a Slot 1 PIII and 256 MB of Ram. I think the system was a "white box" or something from a screwdriver shop. (based on looking at the case, and the components)

problem is twice now she has called me and said that the computer won't power up.

first time I took the cover off and found the memory, (256 MB, some generic brand,) was in the middle slot. (of 3) I put the stick into the first slot, (Closest to the processor,) and it worked just fine. whern she called me again, I put the RAM in the third slot, (farthest from the processor, and everything worked. Does anyone have any ideas? Could it be a heat issue? thermal expansion/contraction?

Yeh is it making any noise at all?
Maybe ram/processor/pci/agp/powercables are loose and everytime you open you touch something that fixes it????
