ok i'm looking at getting a super mid-range system.

right now I only play mericas army and UT 2004.

I'm looking at getting:

ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe
AMD Athlon64 3000+ (939)
6600 GT
(2)512 MB Kingston value RAM DDR 400 DIMM 3-3-3
Seagate Barracuda 80 Gb 7200 rpm 8 MB cache
Antec True 430W
Nikao Ogre Case (I like it)
Windows XP Pro w/ SP2

1440.00 Cdn After Tax (boxing day sale :D)

I;m getting the new asus board because in he future if i need a graphics boost i could go SLI w/ the 6600 GTs, also 939 pin is good for high end CPUs and ofcourse PCI-Express. Does this sound good or am I making a bad move?

would i be better off to buy everything on boxing day and then just wait till i could get my hands on the gigabyte nforce4 ultra mobo... then i would save 100 bucks now and just upgrade to a whole new better card later. that sounds better to me.

Can you get Corsair Value instead? Kingston is infamous for its crap ram. Everything else looks good.

EDIT: Nikao...relabeled case, and I'm not sure how well it actually is. But if you can stand soothing asthetics I recommend something like an Antec or Lian-Li, much better quality, will last you much longer.

you think getting the asus board and going SLI later would be a good idea or should i wait a bit and get that Chaintech nForce 4 board

The Chaintech board is a very nice board, if you know you won't be using SLI you could save 100+ bucks and get the Chaintech instead. Great price.

ok what im asking here is pretty much:

1.go ASUS, pay 100+ bucks more, get another 6600 GT in future

2.go Chaintech, pay 100+ less, get my choice of what ever is out in future

basicly would paying around 180 cdn in the future ( for another 6600 GT ) give me a noticable preformance boost that would be worth the cost of the mobo. Or would I be more happy with buying a cheaper mobo and just getting a brand NEW card in the future?

Yes I hear the X800XL is supposed to be around 300 bucks, as long as ATI can keep em in stock.

Anyway PQI is a good company, better than Kingston at least, but you sure you can't get Corsair? Their valueram is the best.

Well you're probably better off getting a cheaper mobo and a more expensive video card. If you can't afford a 6800GT right now then wait for the X800XL. Either way you'll be waiting, but a X800XL on a Chaintech NF4 would do like 3x better than a 6600GT on a Asus NF4SLI.

Who knows, maybe in two weeks the XL will be out. It sucks that Newegg doesn't ship to Canada, Newegg usually always has the latest products.

Yeah I really don't believe in SLI's "upgradeability" either. When it's time to upgrade (1 or 2 years) you're ready to upgrade the whole damn motherboard, CPU, and video card. Just get the best bang for your buck now and redo the whole thing when the time comes.

something about this article bugged me
http://www20.graphics.tomshard...222/vga_charts-09.html

it shows 6600 GT, alone beats 2 6600GT SLI. same with 6800 GT, single beats SLI.
weird.

Anyway, go with chaintech

I have the nikao ogre case, it has nice features.

could you show a cost break-down? im probably crazy but that looks alittle high in prices. whereabouts in canada do you live
