This is a fairly weak rant, I just feel like bitching, so bear with me.
So i've been looking into getting a dog since I moved into an apartment complex that allows it. I'm going on a trip to florida next week. I didn't want to put a new dog in a kennel, so my plan was to wait until I got back. Well, my (unemployed) friend emphatically said she could watch the dog while I was gone, as she has nothing better to do and loves dogs. So, about a month ago, I got the dog.
Fast forward to Monday. Over the 3 weeks I had the dog, she was still insistant about being able to watch him, in fact very excited to do it. I'd offered her compensation, as well as her free reign over my fabulous array of food and drink over the week, so its a pretty good deal. Plus she lives at home and hates it, so its a chance to get out of the house. Monday rolls around, I'm out at the bar for her birthday with some of her friends. She asks "hey, wanna go to penn state this weekend?" "No, I'm going to florida, and you're watching my dog" .... 10 minutes later "hey, wanna go camping next weekend?" "no, I'll still be in florida, and you'll still be watching my dog" "oh yea".
Now she's mysteriously absent whenever the subject comes up. I'll be talking to her online, and as soon as I ask about it, she disappears. Last night she ignored my phone call, and has yet to return it.
I guess I will be taking him to a kennel. Yes, I'm annoyed that she isn't doing it, but I can't blame her for me getting the dog early - but I certainly do feel justified in being angry about not telling me 'no' and just disappearing.
Is it really that hard to just own to what you say you'll do, or at least back out in a reasonable amount of time so I can find a replacement? Egh. People.
