I don't get it, is this the same as Unreal 2?

nope. unreal 2 is single player (im guessing it'll also have multiplayer since the original had it as well) game. Unreal 2 is geared more toward the single player story element. UT 2003 is pure multiplayer shooter.

w00t!

I've been playing single player UT2003 leaked demo for a while. And although it's definitely beat stage in the leak, it runs decently, looks top notch, and is fun to play.

Basically so far, if you liked the original UT, think of this one with updated graphics, weapon balance, AI, features, and new game modes.

Does anyone think that as it gets closer to release we'll see this game at a cheaper price?

Yes

Btw - at E3 we saw both Unreal 2 and this game. Both are incredible games, and I highly recommend each one. What the updated Unreal engine can do blows my mind.

Anyway, we spoke with a couple guys from digital extremes, and they said the final version should run pretty well on a 700mhz + processor and a Geforce 2 or better. If you've been waiting for a FPS to utilize that Geforce 4 of yours, this is it.

Since this is still based on the Unreal (read: 3 year old) engine, is there any point to this game other than a change in maps, weapons and overall look? I was hoping this was going to be based on the Unreal2 engine, since that was the "next big thing".

You mean to tell me it doesn't have shaders in it?
The screenshots look way too good.
Have you even seen the screenshots? If you have go away, quit ruining the excitment...
must be one of those quake players...
heh
😀

Actually...
I have seen the screenshots. I don't think they look that different from UT (except for new weapons, etc.). I'm an Unreal person from way back, so I was really looking forward to this, but like I said it was originally going to be built on the Unreal2 engine. But since that hasn't come out yet, I guess that's the reason. I'd rather they wait to release this until they could use the Unreal2 engine personally.

who cares what engine it's BASED on. Half-Life/CS is Quake 1 and Quake 2, and it's like the most popular shooter out there.

This game runs great on my gf2 mx200 16mb (doesn't like my Matrox G450 32mb tho 🙁 )

Multiplayer is lots of fun and the maps are excellent. I will definitely be buying it when it comes out!

like someone else said, this is build on the unreal warfare engine, the latest unreal engine.. it's mentioned in the PC Gamer (july 2002) article talking about "America's Army" (cant wait for that to come out since it's going to be free 🙂 ) since that uses the unreal warfare engine as well.

Wrong...it's based on the new unreal 2 engine...ut2k3 and u2 will both use this engine...
Based on what the information says on this site, it uses the Unreal Engine. So I assumed that it meant the current Unreal Engine, not the Unreal2. So are they incorrect then? I thought that since there are multiple engines, they would specify, not just say "The Unreal Engine" (like they do). That's kind of like saying "The Quake Engine".

I skimmed over it last night, I'll check it again when i get home tonight.
If I recall right the polygon count is going to be much higher, this would account for a new engine would it not? I could be wrong..

i see how it can be confusing.. they should have mentioned it being the new engine..

on epics website, it talks about unreal warfare engine as "a new version of the unreal engine"

April 2002 - Post GDC Update

A full update describing a new version of the Unreal Engine is coming soon so please check back over the next few weeks. In the mean time we wanted to describe a new tool that was shown at GDC from the latest member of the Unreal Engine family - LIPSinc.

oh well. game looks awesome. cant wait for it to come out. 🙂

The Unreal Engine is an adaptation of the original Unreal build. UT2003 and U2 use the Unreal Engine, which is very different than the original. I guess you could say it's much like the HL engine compared to Quake (1 or 2, can't remember). About 30% (again can't remember) of the HL engine was from Quake, the rest was modified.

Unreal Warfare is a seperate game/build, but I do think it is related to the Unreal Engine. Epic, I don't think, has even confirmed the existance of Unreal Warfare.
