Unreal2 ?

I loved Unreal and I stilllove single player games, especially Deus Ex, and Unreal.
Currently, I am running a p3 700, GF4, and 256 megs O ram.
Enough?

Any way I look at it, the upgrade seems like it will be $500 or more for a new CPU, RAM, MB.

What are your "standards"?

What O/S are you running? 256MB RAM is fine for 98SE but only half of XP's needs.

If you are planning to upgrade soon, O/C that CPU to 933+Mhz and run it till she burns out . . . you should see about a 25% performance increase.

I'd say "enough" (30 plus FPS) with your current system if you are satisfied with low/medium details and 640x480 or so. 😉


BTW, Unreal2 is out next month.


EDIT: D/L the Unreal Tournament Demo - it uses the SAME Unreal engine as Unreal II. It will let you know how well your computer will do as there is even a built-in benchmark

You should be able to do better than that.

I'd also guess a motherboard would be around $100 but it depends one which one you buy.

Comes to around $353 but realistically doesn't need to go over $400.

True but Unreal 2 will feature more eye candy than UT2003 does because its soley for single player and thus isn't as sensitive to framerates as the multiplayer UT2003 is.

Also correct. However, the tournament demo will give a good picture if he wants to know for FREE (approximately) how Unreal II will run on his current system (and if he can stand not to upgrade).

And my suggestion to O/C (and to use 98SE) was just a (free) stopgap measure to squeeze every last ounce of performance out of his aging rig. 😉
