Which game series do you prefer? Personally it has to be Quake for me. I still think that Quake 3: Arena is one of the best games there is, its just more addictive than Unreal 2k4.

I'm going all the way back to the original Quake and Unreal, since these games and HL1 got me playing PC games exclusively.

Quake/GLQuake is THE game that got me hooked on multiplayer gaming. I didn't have broadband back in 1998 and my dialup sucked, so I played Quake deathmatch against coworkers on the small LAN at work. There's not many still playing the original Quake these days, but I still enjoy loading up Rocket Arena with a few bots to play against.

The single player campaign of the first Unreal simply amazed me. I had a 350Mhz K6-2 at the time with a Voodoo Banshee 16mb card and the graphics blew me away. The AI was pretty good and I've played thru the SP campaign several times now.

I didn't actually really get into games till a co-worker put the UT2k4 demo on a computer at work...& now i play UT2k4 pretty much 5-6 days a week.

That guy who got me into UT2k4 is actually a hardcore Q3 player.
Now while i prefer UT2k4 & the Unreal games, i know that i would prefer Quake if i had been gaming back then.

Q3 is likely the best pure FPS game ever made, & while UT2k4 is alot better in graphics & design, it really seems so much like it was taken from Q3 & adjusted, as each weapon in UT DM has a remarkably similar one in Q3.

Best game overall i think would be Q3. However, it's time is somewhat over now, so i'd say currently the best FPS would be UT2k4.

Quake 3 was horrid. I would say minus that, the quake series was cooler because it had a good single player, but UT has always had cooler multiplayer modes.

I suppose Quake 3 got me hooked for MP mainly because the bots were so good and the maps were designed so well (I only had a 56k modem back then). Maps like: The longest yard and the edge are just more fun than UT maps just because they're crazy. Quake 2's SP was pretty good too.

no poll?!

I prefer unreal, simply because game play is a lot better. But i give credit to quake for paving the way for some of the best FPS's out there.

No bots are good.

I personally loved Q2, made the slow transition to loving Q3, then started playing more and more UT. I suppose each game has its goods and bads, but for online play Q3 takes the cake.

Unreal is still one of my favorite games of all times. The music... the atmosphere... the monsters... the graphics, all came together to make a really unique experience.

I always found Quake to be a pretty dull game, especially after DOOM which was always a lot of fun.

I like the direction Unreal went with the UT series, and actually having more frequent releases. Quake was awsome in its day, but Q3 was a dissapointment.

Nah. I've yet to play a game that had impossible bots. UT got a little hairy, Quake's were easy, they were trained to do specific things, totally scripted.

I still play Q3. That game is awesome. Why would someone think it was horrid? Single player Q3 is horrid, sure, but online Q3 CTF.....there is nothing finer. I did just get UT2004 the other day and it does look quite good...it also looks and feels like a 2004 version of Q3...that's probably why I like it.

On another note...is CSS a noob shooter? I've tried to play that since back when the original came out....and I've always hated it. Seems to me like there's so much less skill involved in that game vs Quake 3 or Unreal. 3 shots and you're dead, then you wait for 5 minutes to play again...<yawn. More like Counter Sleep. I think I'll start a new thread for that one....

I fail to see how that makes CS for noobs.

Quake, no doubt. I have to give props to the Unreal team as it is a great game, but Quake is the original. It's kinda like asking Babe Ruth or Mickey Mantle. Sure the Mick was great but Babe changed the game.

Compared to the one-shot railguns and 2 shot rocket launchers? BTW, it's can be anything between 1 shot and kill 3 people to 6 shot and kill no one, CS is about skill while Quake is not. Quake is 10x easier and not nearly as good as CS:S.

There wouldn't be an Unreal without the success of Quake's "lesser" multiplayer.

I was a QII CTF junkie...I'm hooked on UT2k4 onslaught now...I just think it's more fun...I love team games and the variety of the vehicles adds more fun. UT2k4 is also more fun if your team sucks compared to Q3CTF.

I always respected the Unreal series, but I always got addicted to the Quake series.
