Unreal Tournament

I have never played UT. I have played Quake, Hexen, Doom, Heretic, and the similar type games, but not UT. What exactly is it? What are the machine requirement for it? Does it play good over a network?

UT is better than Q3

...but Half-Life is still the remaining champ. I can't go back to playing mindless FPSs anymore.

I happen to like UT better than Q3, but this is only IMHO. Both are great games, graphically, although Q3 has the upper hand in this domain (but you need a fast graphics card). I just find UT more fun, and it runs well even with a Voodoo2 card(glide)!

btw, they just had a poll regarding ePSXe (the playstation emu for pc); did you know that more users use the Glide Plug-in more than any other ones (OpenGL/D3d)? Makes you wonder...

UT is q3 but it has its weaps AND more weaps, better powerups, lets you see text and crap and has team modes, mods, ctf, etc. instead of mindless, chatless dm'ing... and it runs smoothly on almost any system. It's a better game overall...

I find both very enjoyable. I find UT much easier to play though. The players in general are not as good and the game is "slower" paced. Also, you really need a great ping to fully enjoy q3a whereas with UT, even though my ping averages around 150-200 (dsl) I have a good time. I think one of the attractions is that it has more weapons with "ranged/splash" damage.

I agree with an earlier post though, for me nothing beats half-life.

I find UT runs better on a dialup connection - less problems with hanging/lag. (Have them both, rarely play Q3). However, both are great both graphically and play is very similar.

I think UT has codes (need to modify a file first). Never used them though. Anyways, in order to not get this link locked, this is a good deal, and I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't own the game yet. Unless, of course, you plan on buying a SB live x-gamer card, which comes with the game now (not sure if it's only the 5.1 version).😉

yeah UT's got some cheats too, I don't remember the exact terms (someone fills me in on this) but they were of the likes of "god", "ghost", "weaponsloaded", etc...

Honestly, I am a 2d video game veteran, so I don't find myself enjoying these first person perspective games as much as the younger generation. For me, beating games like "The Adventures of Bayou Billy" on the NES, or "Salamander" on the MSX (life force), or "Aldynes" (Supergrafx), or even "Alex Kidd in Miracle World" on the Sega Master System, were more memorable and enjoyable in those days. I know, it's nostalgic...

Yeah!! Bayou Billy was fun.😀 I never did win it, and I remember it took me forever to get past that jeep driving part. Can't forget ninja gaiden and good ol' contra either, and bionic commando! I still love fps though. Maybe some of the gameplay isn't as meaningful or memorable, but it is definitely fun, and the graphics dwarf old games a million times over.
