I am archiving some old programs and I was trying to find out where the save files are located for the original Unreal Tournament.
If I put the program on another machine again I would like to add my profile with the saves cause it's been completed for ages.

What are the files called and where are they located?

If I remember right....in UT, there is a user.ini file. I think it should be located UnrealTournament/System.

I see the user.ini file but it only has a couple of lines about the saves and names of players.
It doesn't seem to have enough info to store my progress or completed levels.

That does seem odd, about user info. I wanna say for sure that file is all ya need to backup, but that makes me leary now, and maybe i'm wrong.
Somebody must know for sure, wish i could have been of more help.

Heh It should be pretty easy considering all I want to do is store my save games.
I was trying to find my saves on Oni as well and it was really hard, but I think it was in a dat file.

Hopefully someone else might know cause UT was and is a very widespread game that many people play so "someone" should know the exact file for the save games.

The User.ini and the Unreal Tournament.ini files are the only ones you need.

The [UTMenu.SlotWindow] section in User.ini contains your "saved" slots/games.

Example:

[UTMenu.SlotWindow]
Saves[0]=3\6\2\3\0\-1\0\-1\0\-1\0\0\M\2\Someone
Saves[1]=3\6\3\6\3\5\3\5\2\2\0\0\M\2\Someone
Saves[2]=
Saves[3]=
Saves[4]=

Your current position in the game in encoded in the characters you see before the player name.

As the previous poster already pointed out, User.ini and UnrealTournament.ini is all you need. All the settings you made in the game are in those 2 files. Just install the game, copy your backed up files back in and it will be like the game was never re-installed :D

Ok, I tried renaming the user.ini to user.bak and when I started up it created a new user.ini and all the slots were empty.
I didn't think there was enough space in the line before the names to store saved info but it did.
Do I really need the UnrealTournament.ini file, or is it just a file with controller, display and sound settings?

I saved the user.ini file, but that was all. I can always set my settings again as long as it keeps the saves.
