Jbourne you can say it all you like but Epic failed with UT3, they knew they did, and the game is broken, simply because of the UI. This has been proven time and again by countless UT fans. Sorry.
LOL
They failed with UT3 because they keep trying to entertain clowns like us with an outdated style of play and because they keep trying to achieve conflicting goals with the franchise.
You say that it failed simply because of the UI (which is an opinion, not a fact, Sparky), yet there are people right here in this thread who say that their problem with the game is that it's too similar to UT2k4 and UT99.
I appreciate that you employ such absolutes in your arguments, though. It makes it much easier to refute, since all I need is one counterexample to derail it.
There are THREE main arguments I routinely encounter when people try to explain UT3's failure:
1. The UI
2. It's too much like UT2k4
3. It's too much like UT99
Once in awhile you get "it's too much like UT2k4 AND UT99" (which we just saw above). This coupled with reasons 2 and 3 ought to tell a thinking man something very obvious: the fanbase is split, and split enormously, and trying to appease all 3 camps is a conflicting goal.
Likewise, Epic can't try to create the feel of those other games without being accused of failing to innovate. If they do try to innovate, they're accused of abandoning loyal fans.
It's a no-win situation, especially with a style of play that is outdated and not in demand.
But by all means, continue deluding yourself into thinking it's all the UI's fault. Despite mountains of evidence that the issue is far more complicated than that, at least the UI argument is suitable to narrow thinking.
i think it failed because there are too many different types of fricking game play, therefore it looks like no one is playing anything :|
