Unreal Tournament 3 -- Preorder it for $40?

I'm pretty sure that I'm going to buy Unreal Tournament 3, having played UT99 and UT2004. It looks like it can be pre-ordered for $40 from GoGamer.com. Would that be the best price I could find shortly after its release or is there a chance that it might be available as a Black Friday special?

The special edition will almost certainly sell out, though probably not by enough to be worth reselling, but the game itself shouldn't have any trouble being available.

I'll never understand what good a special edition would do for that game. It's not as though people who buy the vanilla edition won't be able to play the same custom maps and mods as someone who buys the special edition/

usually the special edition comes with extra content and packaging that you can't get with the vanilla edition without downloading them(illegally in most cases). For example Unreal Tournament 2003(or was it 2004?) special edition came with a second DVD with useful and nice video tutorials on map making and such.

Shizzle. Pre-ordering is stupid.
Just ask all those poor bastards who pre-ordered Duke Nukem Forever.

Hehehe. That game title is the biggest joke "forever". So appropriate. IF it ever come out I hope they call it "Duke Nukem: About Time". I still have the preview video of the game somewhere in my system.

I never preorder games. UT3 is probably the upcoming game that I'm anticipating most, but I'll wait a few weeks after it comes out before buying it.

LoL, DNF  I'll preorder some games. It depends on what they have though. I've only done that a few times before. It's usually to get a tshirt, or a special set that I want to be sure of getting. I'll pre order UT3, if I get something out of the deal. I'd buy it even if it were universally reviled by gamers. It's my little way of supporting Epic, and it would make my Unreal collection complete(well except for UT2, but I don't really need that :p)

Epic can die in a fire tbh. What it did to the other developers on the Xbox 360 was pretty horrible.

You don't want Unreal Tournament 3 for a console -- PC only! Why? Because it's an online multiplayer game and what's included in the box is only a small fraction of the game. Most of the online activity will involve custom, user-made content, such as thousands of user-made maps and custom game types, and it's much easier to manage those files with a PC. Also, part of the experience is to be a member of a clan team and to play in leagues and clan matches. You'd want to have easy access to the IRC and voice-over-IP programs (like Teamspeak and Ventrilo) for that. Also, the console versions will, supposedly, be a little different than the PC version; they'll have larger hitboxes (for console controls) and the console versions may have slower movement.

The 360 version should be avoided because Microsoft is liable to bork the online multiplayer aspects and make it prohibitive to download the custom content.

The real UT3 game will be played on the PC and NOT on consoles. I've been playing online since early 2001, I've been a core member of a league clan, I've managed a public server, and I've been a member of numerous discussion forum communities. Trust me--you're not going to get the real experience on a console.

You should be grateful someone as talented as Epic is even touching the damn Sh!tbox 360.

Thats what I was going to say, well, probably not shitbox, but something similar.

I can never understand why console fanboys tout their system religiously and then whine louder than congressmen when something doesnt go their way.
Unreal Tournament really is a computer game. It started out that way and all the improvements over the years have been aimed at making PC gaming better.
It was never supposed to be a good game for the console systems. I played it on a friends PS2 and it SUCKS!

Console lovers have a common misconception they need to get over:
A good computer game does NOT get better by moving to the television set, it gets worse.

I like how people assume I am a console gamer when I say Epic can die in a fire because of what they did to the developers on the XBox.

Do people even know that Epic is being sued for possibly the worst scandal software development in the past 20 years?

They sold a TON of licenses of the UT3 engine and then started making Gears of War. While the license provided the licensees help and upgrades Epic used their programming pool to fix Gears of War's version of the UT3 engine while giving the other developers the WRONG way to do things and denied them 3rd party tools and information that Epic used to get the engine to work on the Xbox 360 just to pass MICROSOFT's basic quality tests.

The only company to have anything done at the E3 was Silicon Knights but in comparison to GoW the U3 engine for SK's game was horrid. Not only did Epic fail to deliver the code and its fixes on time but they souped up the GoW engine and said the features in GoW were not going to be in the U3 engine. When they released the GoW code to show developers what could be done with the U3 engine on the Xbox 360 the other developers quickly saw that not only did Epic use things the opposite way they told their licensee's to use but they had so much code that was 3rd party just to make it work.

In short... they bamboozled everyone. I don't like the Xbox 360 or the PS3. I don't own a wii and haven't played my own gamecube in 2 years. I am hardcore PC to the bone... and an MMO junky... and Have every UT game thats come out for the PC ( and even UT on Dreamcast ) but I know when to use my purchasing power to let a company know when they've gone too far.

Read the legal documents for the trial. Its like 50+ pages of W.T.F. and a lot of it is not really for discussion in many parts because Epic did fail its contract in some key aspects.

Don't forget about them developing for the POS3.

Heh, sorry you hate Epic so much, but that lawsuit isn't going to be able to touch them. It'd take more then that 1 pissed off studio for Epic to see any negative effects. Just too many other games that will have turned out fine on UE3 for it to be any kind of issue (Bioshock despite all the minor whining being a prime example).

While Epic has done plenty of things I don't think I like as far the console world, I don't think there's much valid complaining about UE3. I think we'll see that be true once the lawsuit is concluded.
