Folks,

A poster outside the Eletronics Boutique store at the Scottsdale Fashion Square certainly caught my eye:

Pre-Order UT 2004 at the store:

$39.99 for the game
- $10 off manufacturer?s rebate (in the box)
- $20 off EB rebate (printed on the receipt when you buy the game)
- $9.99 off for trading in UT2003 and another PC game

=FREE!

The only thing is the clerk couldn?t confirm is if this applies to the CD-ROM version or the DVD version. His store listing showed that both will be offered for $39.99. He suggested that I pre-order both, which only costs $5 to reserve each, and then move the extra $5 over to which ever version I decide to go with when it?s released. Frankly, I wouldn?t be heart broken if the deal is only for the CD-ROM version, especially if it?s free. Funny thing is, the clerk told me that only 40% of their customers actually redeem their rebates, so I don?t think they?ll lose out big with this offer even if it is for the DVD version.

Be warned that not every EB store knows about this offer. For instance, another store 15 minutes away had no clue about it. The clerk-in-the-know suggested that any EB store should comply if you ask about it!

I hope this helps! So many times I've saved money buy reading these forums. It's about time I contribute something back.

I wonder if this applies to the DVD Special Edition. Gonna stop-by EB Games tomorrow... today now. :/

Hmm... good question. I don't know if it's a check or EB gift check. I'll try to call the store later today to find out.

99.9% says it's an EB Gift Check, as I have never seen EB offer a cash rebate for something that came from their clearinghouse.

If the employees don't know, tell them to check their daily corporate e-mails which are presumably printed out and kept in a binder behind the counter. It's called the "E BEE LINE."

it's a gc, they have a $20 gc for used gamecubes to (which bring it down to $59.99)

when do you get the EB rebate for the game...when you pre-order or when you pick it up?

I just pre-reserved @ my EB on Saturday, I may make a trip back to save 40 bucks.

Has anyone who is even considering this deal played the UT 2004 demo yet. I downloaded it, played it for about 5 minutes and went on to other things. Don't get me wrong, the game is beautiful eye candy but I see so few differences betwee 2003 and 2004 that I see no good reason to buy it. Product differenciation is an important marketing concept that seems to have been overlooked here ... why buy 2004 (even if it's free - it is not) if you already have 2003? No thread crapping intended ... I am just curious if any other users have played the demo.

I tend to agree with you. I keep seeing posts about UT2K4 is a "major" improvement over UT2K3. I disagree with that, it's quite similar. Just brings new maps, new game modes and voice chat. Whether it's worth an upgrade is an individual call. (I went for it)

I think 2004 has better gameplay and more staying power. If you count the vehicles, it is a totally different game. Nothing like exiting a manta and let the wreckage squash 2-3 people while you land and destoy thier power node. I'm not sure if its revolutionary or evolutionary, but it is very much more fun. I read it will ship with 9 onslaught maps...drooling.

The demo is about the funnest game Ive played in a while.....though I do admit I still suck at it. Can't control the vehicles that well yet either. I played till 2am the other night.

Getting away from the "is ut2k4 any good?" thread and back to the deal:

The $10 in-box voucher is for those that purchased ut2k3. Make sure if you are trading in your old copy of ut2k3 that you have some proof of purchase to use with the $10 voucher. I believe acceptable PoPs include: original receipt, manual from box, or UPC from box. And two of those you won't have if you trade in the game, eh?

I'd supsect deal is not good on special DVD edition. So I'm staying with my original preorder at eb website. :)

You missed Onslaught...WOW! Been playing that for a week straight now. They could have made the whole game based around that :)

It's like Tribes, only better vehicles but no jet packs.

What should they have added to make it "new"? That's three features right there.

I suck at the demo, so why even bother giving up other games where I know I can win?

Sounds like a steal to me. The one at the Springfield Mall in VA knows about the deal. I'm going to go preorder after work. :D

Sounds like a nice deal but I am not giving them my copy of UT2003 for only ten measly bucks. :)
