Most people around here probably already own UT2004 but for those of you who don't, you can get it at Gogamer.com for $14.90. Select "Dirt Cheap Shipping" at checkout and pay $1.99 shipping for 1 or 2 games.

hmm Wonder if this still comes with the $10 rebate for previous owners of UT 2003? Would be really hot for 2003 owners that never picked up 2004 if it does!

Considerting that many people felt they had been ripped off by UT 2003, which the UT '99 community regarded as an attrocity and a huge disappointment, it would be understandable that they wouldn't want to invest any more $$$ in the UT 2004 version as it isn't a real UT '99-2.

I might get this. I've been waiting for a UT 2004 deal for a while, though I still have to build the computer needed to play it.

Well you just summed up exactly why I didn't buy 2004 to begin with. I didn't care for UT2003 and stopped playing UT basically. I too am thinking about jumping on this deal and if I knew the rebate was in there the decision would have already been made.

Great find, thanks

UT2004 still sucks, though it is better than UT2003. Original UT still is the best of them.

I was chatting with a UT clanner who played some UT 2004. He thought it sucked. I asked him if people were playing UT 2004 CTF online--this was around 11 pm EST -- online FPS prime time. He took a look and here's what he said:

"Most of the ctf servers that have people on them are running the demo maps, FaceClassic and bridgeOfFate. Right now there are 111 ctf servers and about 20 of them have people playing."

That's outrageous! The original UT was able to boast over 3000+ players playing just CTF (not Deathmatch, Assault, or Domination) during prime time back in the day. For a game that was released in February 2004 that still had somewhat of a fanbase from the original UT and which has sold many copies, having only 111 servers with so few players is pathetic.

Maybe my favorite game of all time really is dead. It's sad that Epic and Atari had to murder such a good thing.

You got to remember, when the original UT came out, there wasn't nearly as much competition for online gaming.

Now the online gaming population is split up between so many more games. Sure, there's not as many games online as there was when UT2004 first came out, but I still have no trouble finding a game. UT2004 is still the game I waste most time on, by far. I usually play Onslaught most though - love those vehicles...

was just about to say the same.

theres plenty of game titles that have the same thing happening. i used to love the org tribes, and i finally went out and bought tribes veng(3), but when i loged on, hardly a soul to see.

theres very few games that really stand out and keep ppl playing. theres just so many oline games now a days, that the players are being spread very thin.

byw i liked all of the unreal game titles.

It's funny you should mention Tribes: Vengeance. I bought Tribes 2 a couple months ago and I've been playing it some on the Miami Vehicles server (seems to be the only game in town) and I read the TribalWar forums now and then. Apparently the Tribes community feels the same way about T:V as the UT community feels about UT 2003/2004.

However, I did buy T:V for $7 on Wednesday. ($10 on Meijer clearance minus a $3 coupon.) I'm hoping that a modder will create a conversion to make it more palatable for the Tribes community or that it will at least develop its own small fanbase eventually, assuming that I like it of course. I still have to build the computer that I'm going to need to play it. Now if I can just get UT 2004 for $7.

This is the perfect game for those wanting to play games on their home LAN. No stinking CD required, the ability to add bots, plenty of cool vehicles, and lots of mods. I wish other games (Half Life 2, Far Cry,...) were this user friendly.

Definately. My wife and I play together on the same team in onslaught games on lan games - no need for separate keys or CD's as long as you stay on the lan. Thinking about picking up an extra copy so we can play internet games together. At this price I just might have to...
