Unreal Tournament 2003 - Direct3D or OpenGL? What's the verdict?

Which one should I use? OpenGL gets slightly better framerate but I'm curious if OpenGL does not utilize all the graphics? I noticed under Direct3D they had some extra settings like CubeMapped and stuff. Which should I use, or rather, which are you using?

Is there any benefit to use one over the other?

When givin the choice, I usually use D3D, it just seems more stable for me with more consistant frame rates

What video card are you using? I'm using a regular old cracker GeForce 3 (no ti) overclocked to 245 core / 515 memory.

D3D of course! ;)

After all this is what it was desinged for...

Also you have more config options to play around with when in D3D than OGL.

The only games that benifit from OGL rather than D3D are games that are based off of id's engines.

I wonder why I get about 10 frames per second less in Direct3D though (?).

OpenGL lets you use the compressed textures on the 2nd CD (well, for the normal version. I dont know if it is on a different cd for GOTY). The textures rock. My framerate (gf2 gts) is a little higher also with openGL. The only issue is that coronas display banding effects in opengl (instead of a smooth transition of glow around lights from brightest at the source to none at the edge, there are ugly bands but you either get used to them or turn them off ;))

edit: <-- stupid. completely disregard the above post as I missed the "2003" :D

Do you have your video card driver lowering OGL quality? Check the settings.
