hey there
well I recently got the game unreal tourn. and it is awsome to say the least, I do have a couple questions though. I am by no means a terrible player but I am not up to par on all the things that the game offers, I love the fighting and I know there are some awsome players out there.

but I don't understand how I get killed sometimes with a little pee shooter as I am laying waste with one of the bigger weapons ??? and what gives with some people that are getting hit with 2 or 3 rockets that I see directly hit them not die ? as I play I notice this and if it were me getting hit with such things I am blown to bits ? is there some sort of cheat or skill level that you can build up too ? because I am having a hard time believing that I can shoot someone with the rocket lancher point blank and they don't die ?

also what is the best way to play.....with the keyboard and mouse or some joystick. I can get around good with the board and the mouse but I can't believe some of the moves people pull off.....jumping in mid air and shooting with unreal accuacy...I know it is possible that these people are just that damn good but I am starting to wonder ? also I see people turn 180 degrees on the stop of a dime and shoot back at me....now when I try this with the mouse it never works out ? any pointers would be greatly appreciated or someone to tell me that it isn't just me and there are advantages to the game. I know of the relics that give u strenght and armour and such but still unbelievable the stuff some guys pull off.

thanks

Sometimes people are wearing tough armor... that prevents a quick kill with a fat rocket smacked in their face. Usually if you hit someone point blank with a rocket launcher they're going to explode into a storm of gibs...

IMHO, keyboard+mouse is always the way to go. I guess it's just harder for joysticks since I'm not sure (that I'd like to take the time to learn) how to adjust the sensitivity. By adjusting the sensitivity, you adjust your "look" rate. Faster look rate helps when you're trying to snipe someone down as well as when you see people turn 180 degrees and shoot you. You can adjust this in the control panel (it's in one of those... maybe under the Game tab. sorry, I forgot  ). Accuracy - you just gotta build that up over time. Those jumpshots that you see people doing are acquired thru practice.

I suggest that you continue to play - both practice sessions as well as online. Play against bots. Adjust their skill according to yours, making the skill level just one level above what you think you're capable of winning (ie if you think you can defeat bots on skilled, set it on the next higher level). Good luck!

dont forget head shots, the sniper rifle and the shredder both can kill someone with any amount of armor with a hit to the head.

Also, the shock rifle has a special, if you shoot the big blue ball like thing then shoot that with the main fire, it goes off in a big explosion, and does a LOT of damage, i hate it when people use this too much.

You will learn the best way to use each weapon, just a matter of practice. When i first started i couldnt figure out why people were killing me in 1 on 1 with the chaingun, seemed like everyone else was firing faster than me, turns out the alternate fire fires faster, and is good for close up combat.

Oh, and you can also be killed instantly by being telefragged, no matter how much armor or protection you have, if someone shoots a translocator at you and teleports as you are touching it, your gone.

IMO getting armor is more important than getting large weapons, ie..the rocket launcher. You can do a lot of damage with body armor and a chain gun:)

MOCKBA: Isn't quad damage a Quake feature? BTW: try not to use capital letters all the time, they're hard to read.

well that explains alot, I appreciate the info on the game, so does anyone have any preferences on keyboard setup and how to get the mouse keyed in opptimaly ? are there any check boxes that are good to have checked ? it doesn't really matter if you are a man or women does it ? plus I have seen some guys pulling off amazing jumps and doing flips and stuff how are they doing that, I know there are some gravity boots and things like that ?

UT is a game of skill. You need to play against the best to be good. Learn to use shock and get on a server called Six Feet Under and watch Hubbs kick some ass. If you need any other tips let me know.

I've always found it useful in any FPS game to bind keys to my favorite weapons close to my movement keys. For example, I use the WASD keys for movement (forward, step left, step back, step right respectively), and have different weapons bound to Q,E,R,F,Z,X,C,V,1,2,3, and 4. It's alot quicker than scrolling through the weapons, and it frees up Mouse2 to be your secondary fire. I also have a wheelmouse so I bind scroll up and down to previous weapon and next weapon. I've found that taking time to bind my weapons gives me an advantage in a lot of matched...while my opponents are frantically clicking to get the next weapon, or taking one of their hands way out of the way to hit 8,9, or 0, I've got exactly the weapon I want aimed right at their head ; )

my keyboard setup is just default, except i use ctrl for ducking (a habit from playin HL? think so)
UT is a game blind to your racial or sexual orientation.
as for jumps, u can jump higher if you collect anti-grav jump boots. the flips you are referring to are probably dodging, it is enabled in the preferences by default (tap twice quickly into a direction you wanna dodge to)
if you wanna be good at any fps, get yourself a GOOD mouse and a mousepad. many seem to lack either of those two vital components of fragging... i cant kill a quill rat with a broken mouse! get yourself a likes of surface1030 or everglide, having one makes a world of difference....
btw, the dmg amplifier does 3x dmg in UT if my memory serves me right...

While we're on the subject of this beautiful game, I can't seem to get my FOV setting to stick. Every time I start a new map, it defaults back to 90 degrees, and my eyes can't take that crap anymore :) Is there an autoexec type thingy I can make?
