As expected, but who cares if it makes doom 3 look bad, it isn't out, and 90% of the market wouldn't be able to play it even if it was, because the technology required to play it, isn't out in force ;) I look forward to playing it when it DOES come out though.

Your link ain't working there bud.

Yeah, the UE 3.0 will be better than Doom, but its not due to be used in a game thats released before the beginning of 2006.

yes considering a 6800U can barely run it now. granted its early and proubly will perform better but my guess anygame based on that engine will be 9800pro+ which is still pushing it.

Two.

Years.

Away.

.

Don't get me wrong, I love Unreal Tech, but if it's going to be released two years later, it better look good.

Supposedly the number of polygons in one model will be as many as 10000 unreal 2003 levels :)

I thought the appeal of the 3.0 engine was that it could have amazing graphics with fewer polygons? Through extensive bump and normal mapping it could use a lot less polygons while achieving better grahpics.

Yeah that was the point I think. A normal-mapped Unreal 3 model will visually have 10,000 times the triangles of a current Unreal level but will render much faster because of the normal map. The one model they have there in 3DS was the example, 5,000 before normal map, 2,000,000 after.

Only thing I don't really see in those screenshots is lush vegitation, something the current unreal engine is short on as well. I think FarCry really raised my expectations for realistic terrain/vegitation.

Dang, those goblins/monsters look pretty realistic, along with the environments...

When are game companies going to start bundling coupons for Depends? ;)

holy crap, those graphics look awesome. i just hate how everytime a new game comes out you have to run out and spend $$$ on a new video card.

A couple of years ago underware was bundled with Alien vs Predator : )

I won't be impressed by an engine until every atom has it's own polygon and the physics for each atom is calculated.

Do not listen to any of the people talking about normal mapping in here. They have no clue what they're talking about. Go read the engine page.

You serious?! That game was a little freaky, but I didn't find it to be too incredibly scary...

One size fits all? Briefs? Boxers? Edible panties...;)

What do they run it on for testing?

I would imagine for testing purposes they would need one hell of a system. Anyone have any clue what they would be using.

Also how would are 6800UE and X800XT fair in this game right now? I was thinking minimum quality @ 640x480 or 8x6. Anyone else have any other speculation. Also i wonder how the X800XT and 6800UE would do in SLI on this game.

Edit: However, it isn't really fair to say this game is gonna crush DIII. As DIII will be like 2-3 year old tech by then. SO dont start another thread flaming everything/

Well the X800XT cant run it as it doesnt support SM3

The 6800U was majorly overclocked just to run that vid demo at an ok frame rate with everything turn on and on max settings...

And from what Epic has said, they think the present day GPUs are gonna be mid spec for the engine, they estimate.

Hey Far Cry, was 1-2 years old, and Doom 3 looks only slightly better....

I don't know about you, Schadenfroh, but I'm going to wait for the REAL killer graphics of Unreal3 in 2006 instead of settling for this "baby step" of Doom3.

This is a pretty silly topic, as has been duly noted.
