Unreal 3 engine and the 6800U/X800pro

I was just wondering if the unreal 3 engine has been tested on the 6800U or the X800 pro. If so, how well can they handle it? fps? I remember a while back when the unreal 3 engine was unveiled at the E3, I read somewhere about a max fps of 3 on a 9800pro running the engine (anyone care to confirm?).

At or near 30 FPS. Remember, this engine is targeting DX9.0 as the MINIMUM spec, so it's really intended to be use on NV50/R500 or higher cards.

And to think, in a year or two, This will run on a 16x12 or higher eye candy, with integrated gfx, like quake three runs on a 6800 gt at 640 x480. hehe

when is unreal 3 and the new cards supposed to be expected? I was really looking forward to getting a SLI build going but if its worth waiting for a next generation card and saving the $800 then thats what ill do.

Thats exactly why I think SLI is a waste.

I'll do my next major upgrade when the u3 engine hits. (luckily I got my current 6800 ultra for free 🙂 ...so I'm okay until then)

Epic has pretty much said that there isn't a card available today that will run U3 at a decent framerate. It's too early to Upgrade for it.

expect Unreal 3 in '06 . . . .

don't bother to upgrade now. 😛

At the rate intergrated graphics are heading, this isnt going to happen for 10 years.

Let's all upgrade to Dual SLI 6800Ultra now, hoping we can play U3 in 2006 (or maybe it'll get delayed by 1 year just like HL2 did) and by 2007 we would have gone through 2005, 2006 and 2007 full generation jumps. 🙂

Looking back, the only people who won are those that didn't upgrade for doom 3 and HL2 until the games actually came out.

nv50/r500 are first quarter '05.. I'd guess we'll see them by january's end or early february's end. Than all of us with our pretty gt/ultras and x800xt/xt-pe's will be owned 😕 and we will not be feeling so 'my system owns' anymore 🙁 😛

Well they may have said that but the fact is there isnt a cpu that is fast enough to even push my little 6800 gt to see what it can do.

Exactly. I mean the GT is an extremely fast card now, and it would be faster if it wasnt cpu limiting it. Epic might say that ur shiny new $400 video card is gunna be junk in 1-2 years, but i disagree. I mean the new video cards coming out next year are gunna be fast and powerful and watnot, but how much are they gunna cost? I think the GT or Ultra will be enough to play any U3 engine based game coming out. I mean at medium details u get 30 fps average, and that's playable. And i'm sure with newer DX's and drivers the performance is gunna go up quite a bit more. And not only that, but if my new GT can last 2 years, i'll be happy! By that time i can upgrade to BTX, DDR2 (when it doesnt suck anymore), SLI PCIe, and the other stuff.

Games like ES4 are what i'm looking at too, and from the screen shots i've seen in game informer, it looks like the GT and a good ol' 3400+ are gunna be plenty to handle that at the end of '05.

I want my comp to last for a while, and even though the new games are coming out within the next 1-2 years, i believe i'll be ready!

Even so it will take beefier vidcards.

I predict UE3 will run with 6800/x800s as well as the 9800/5900 run on doom3 or mabye slightly worse. But thats an un-educated guess:\

to bring this thread back to life...what kind of video card do i need to run UT2004 on the Dell 2005FPw (1680x1050) with decent graphic settings and not have it run like a dog

p4 2.8ghz
1gb ram
intel 875p mobo

Nah, ATI is pushing their own onboard graphics now that will be pretty good. Who knows how far they'll advance them. I think it's going to start off at around 9200 abilities, which actually is pretty good for onboard.

i would think a 6600GT would suffice. if u cant find an agp version, get a 6800nu.
