Unreal 2 problem

I've tried everything that has been suggested, but I still have the same problem. I've disabled, re-enabled, used the ini fix, cranked my video as low as it will go, and still the same problem.

For no reason what so ever, the game hangs every once in a while, it hangs for about 10-20 seconds, then goes back to play. It does this enough for me to be frustrated with it. I've done everything that the official website suggests, and still have the same problem. I even told it to run in Win9x mode.

I'm running WinXP, P4 2.0A with 512 megs of RAM, I have a G3TI500, and a Audigy 2 sound card...

Anyone have a clue what else I can do???

Thanks for all the suggestions.

PS: Yes, I bought it, so it's not a pirated copy.

I would just lower all the auido/video settings down to "medium". In the case of audio, bring down the channels. I had a problem where I would lag and than crash to desktop with a critical error, It must have been a rendering error, so "medium" and lower channels solved it.

danny~!

I tried that, and am still having the same problems... not sure what the hell is going on, driving me nuts though...

THanks for the reply...

Didn't you retire from the forums??

NOTHING is good enough to demand a reformat to install and run!!! Jeez...when did this place get taken over by aimless slackers with nothing better to do than reformat daily?!?:|

I had the same problem the other night, but was able to Alt-Tab to the desktop and then back into the game. It cleared up after I turned off AA and AF on my video card. With everything cranked up full, I think it may be too much to have those features on.

Give that a try, if applicable.

I've had the same thing happening to me. I've got a P4 1.5 384 rd ram and a GF4 4200 128 mb. I'm running W2K. I tried many various setting and the only one that I can live with is to have the detail settings high, shadows on medium and sucking in my pride I'm playing at 800x600 res. I haven't played at this resolution in years, but it's the only way I can avoid the hang time that you're speaking of. Since I can't afford an new computer, I may boost the ram up to 768. The only consolation is that the game still looks great at this resolution, and now it plays better. The map that caused me the most grief was the living planet, where you have to go into the cave with all that swirling fog.

Thanks for all the replies, and help... I'm going to mess with it for a little while this weekend, if I get something working I'll let you know....

Just thought you should know that I got over this problem by adding 500 rd ram to my system. I do not experience the hang times I had with my initial 256 ram. Unreal turned out to be an expensive game for me. I bought a geforce ti4200 and 500mb of rd ram. Not that I'm not pleased with what it's done to my gaming, but I did it with the intention of getting Unreal 2 to play nice. Crazy eh?

Make sure that you have done what BFG10K said and also install the 41.09 drivers if you have not done so already.
