here is a nice little shot i made to show my unreal2 preformace:

640x480 absoulty everything on off or lowest setings in the drivers and the game..

thats a 9700pro on and xp1900+. 512mb pc2100 and whatnot. i can turn way up to make it look realy prety and the framerate doesn't get much worse as can be seen in this shot:

9700 goodness

unforntaly all i realy want is to stay above 30fps. i can even imagine how the framerate junkies could ever like this game, i don't supose BFG10K got this game yet?

What resolution is that pic at (and are you using AA)? Getting a 9700 hopefully and have a 1900+ so would like to see how my PC compares :)

those pics are direct from the game, just converted to jpg. like i said, in the first pic, everything is as low as it will go in the drivers and in the game, so it is 640x480 just like the pick; no aa, no shadows, 8 chanel sound, no vsyc, ect. take a look at the pic for yourself, there is nothing prety about the settings. in the second that is all as high as it will go, but both give unacceptable framerate. i realy recomend waiting for them to patch this thing up to par or play it in about 3 years when the hardware is ready for it.

Well, this is a pretty system intensive game to begin with. Given the amount of eye candy, I would be surprised if this game didn't run slow compared to most of the titles out there. Unfortunately, I think most of us have been spoiled because for a long time, software development have been lagging behind the latest hardware.

Under "my specs", with Box #3 (which is roughly the same as yours), I get approximately 20-45 fps (depending on what's going on during the game) at 1024x768x32 w/MAX visuals, no EAX, Win2k sp3. Granted it's not the 100-200fps I'd expect with older games, but it's still playable. This sort of reminds of the time I first picked up the original Unreal. I had an o/c'd P200MMX @233mhz with a 12mb V2. It flew with pretty much everything I threw at it until Unreal came along.

I have already finished the game and never even took the time to worry about the FPS in the game. It ran fine for me the whole time with 1280 res and AA on for me. Im sure it did dip below 30 FPS sometimes but it didnt do that long enough during game play for me to say this game wont play for me. I also have the Radeon 9700 Pro and a P4 at 2.3.

WaTaGuMp - Want to sell it to me now that you completed it?

Anyone know if a demo is out or if one will be and where?

Thanks,
-JC

sure, so do i, at max setting or at minumim ones, dropes a little below 20fps at some points with everything cranked but even then other areas run smooth as butter. turning it all the way down does help a little, but 20fps while you are tring to aim is not cool. also sure it is an intesive game, too intensive at points, from what i have seen the only people who say it runs smooth are those who could care less about their framerate droping below 20fps all the time. to correct yourself you should say that it does not run smooth but you don't care if a game runs rough; because otherwise you are confusing the situation for those of us who do not like slideshows.

Hm... I don't know why you guys r getting only about 28 fps with 9700pro @640x480..
I think you should be able to get at least 50 fps with 9700pro..
I think you guys should try @1024x768 or higher..

Can you PM or email me at joecervi@attbi.coml? I have to ask you a question about how the game runs. ;)

actualy i finished the game runing at 1024x768 with all thinks high in game and drivers like the 9700 goodness shot above, and quite a bit of the game ran fine and dandy at those settings. however, i had to trun it down to 640x480 super ugly so i could get ~25fps on the final boss as well as mulitple other areas in the game, at any higher settigns my framerate diped so low it was imposable to aim, it was hard enough in super ugly mode.

i too think you should be able to get at least 50 fps with 9700pro, and at respecable looking grapics settings to boot. however, aparetnly epic/legend think framerate in the low 20's is just fine even at the lowest grapic settings on a reasonably power machine.

I run the following.
AMD AthlonXP 1800@Stock
Abit KT7A-RAID
SB Audigy w/ Creative 5300 5.1 speakers
768mb PC133 Memory
Sapphire Atlantis 9700PRO
WinXP Home w/SP1 + All Updates

Game Settings
1280x1024@32bit
Max Detail on every thing.
max of 3 visable shadows(i think)
EAX HD on(i`ve found a fix for my machine, search the forums for my info on it)

FPS = 40fps
Occasionally drops to 25fps when there lots going on.

You people are talking about Unreal 2 and not Unreal Tournament 2003? If so where's the demo at I couldn't find any at the unreal site.

ohh come on, i am sure there are points in the game that bring things well below 25 fps at the settings you mentioned. heck, i have seen under 25fps with everything on 640x480 ugly and my specs are about the same as yours give or take; and i am just finishing up saveing some stuff to cd before i upgrade my motherboard, memory and unlock my processor to make use of it. ill come back with the results later this evening.

Admitady, it does go below 25fps when theres loads and loads going on, but theres very rare occasions when that happens, perhaps 2-3 times in the whole game.
Also keep in mind that my system has been heavly tweaked in every area.
To be quite honest i think that i get good fps considering that my systems only a SDR one.

Yes I've got it and it certainly does slow down a lot. I've managed to get it to run at 50 - 60 FPS with no action by running at 1152 x 864 with disabled shadows and FSAA. Everything else is on high except I turn off particle effects so the game doesn't slow down too much during firefights (usually 30-40 FPS).

The game is certainly crushing to modern systems and R350s paired with 4 GHz processors can't come soon enough as far as I'm concerned.

hmmm, mine hovers around 40-60 with not much going on, gets 20ish when bodyparts are flying. During the cinematics (movies), it gets over 100 sometimes.

1.8a @2.61
512mb Corsair PC3000
Gigabyte 8iexp
Gainward 128MB Ti4200 320/550
DX9

Default settings in the game. 1024x768/32bit/ high on everything

heck, when i was tring to see of v-sync off helped i saw over 200fps in some of the cutseens at high detal, that is not the issue at all cablegod, and i have even played though areas at 70+fps. the problem is some points hit the 20's even with everything on ultra low and drop even lower when you trun things up.

lol BFG10K, i find it funny that you look to fututre hardware for your solution and compleatly overlock the absurdity of released a game that can't sustain over 30fps on even some of the fastest systems and at the lowest quality. i will tell you for sure that an r350 will get you next to nothing in this cpu limited game and 4ghz cpus are still quite a ways off. my only hope is that this was a simple mistake and the guys at epic/legend have some code laying around that will make it into a pach which will make this game run reasonably well all the way though.

Thats the problem with the unreal engine, its too CPU limited. T
hey never seem to use the full capibility of the video card that its running on. Im not saying that they should use the vertex/pixel shader just because they are there, but look at the last couple of generations of GPUs (GF3 onwards), they have the T&L ability that puts a CPU to shame, why not use it? Instead they go a halfway, and use only a fraction of the T&L units power.
We buy these £300+ video cards for games like Splinter Cell & Unreal2 & Deus Ex 2, and then realise that the latest and greatist video card means squat in these games.
I mean come on, these developers can do wonders with the unreal engine, making it look 10x better than the previous build, but they cant find a way to spread out the load between the video card & the cpu!!! WHY? How hard can it be?
