I'm using Speedfan (v 4.18) for CPU temps. They seem to be accurate as they're in the right range and change with load. (unlike other programs like Soltek HW)

Anyone using the integrated NV SATA controller and a pair of SATA drives on this board? I'm considering getting some smaller (80GB) drives and setting them up in RAID0 for video work. Opinions?

I have two seagate 200gig satas in a raid0. Never have had one problem with them at all. Good stuff.

Hey Fuzn, what bios version do u have T1.1 or T1.2? Cause I had problems with t1.2.
Thanks Gil554. With cpu oc-ing i'm familiarized since i managed to run a 2800+ Barton at 2500Mhz rock stable several months under heavy load. I'm not familiarized with memory timings in oc-ing conditions, thats why i have indicated my memory timings normal value.

If it works good for you please post the results. With the recent articles on RAID0 I've held off setting up an array. (leaving some nice features untouched)

Okay, where can I get this Bios with 1.7 VCore? Can someone PM me to arrange emailing it or something? I REALLY want to try it out!

I had the Soltek before moving on to the DFI UT. Ran 2x36GB Raptors RAID-0 on both using NVraid. I capture mpeg2 video using a Hauppage tuner card to a separate 120 GB WD SE drive. Writing DVD files with Ulead DVD Movie Factory to the RAID array is about twice as fast as writing to the WD120.

I just did a quick test, a 1.04GB mpeg2 file took 1 min 27 sec to write to the RAID array, and 2:54 to write to the WD120. Because these are DVD compliant mpeg2 files, not much processor load is required unlike actual editing and recoding where CPU load is at or near 100%. For editing I would imagine RAID 0 would be helpful, but not so much as raw processor speed. I will do a test editing and recodng a file and see if the RAID affect the results.

This board has been great for me so far, with one exception: it absolutely refuses to take my 512 MB stick of Mushkin RAM. My other stick of Kingston RAM works fine. Has anyone else had any success with Mushkin and/or any suggestions on getting it to work?

Also, is there any point in flashing the bios (I don't have a floppy drive so it would be a pain in the ass) if I'm not using RAID?

Mixing RAM on this board is a no-no. When I first got it, I was using a 512 stick of Apacer, which worked fine. I bought a stick of Mushkin green to go along with it, and had all sorts of problems. Once I got another identical stick of Mushkin, the two sticks worked fine together. The Apacer hasn't gone bad; it's working flawlessly in another system. You really need to have 2 identical RAM sticks to minimize stability problems.

How accurate have people found the Anti-burn doc in BIOS to be as far as temp readings? I know the Soltek HW monitor in windows is junk but I was curious about the BIOS readings. If so I need to figure out a 12-15 deg C discrepency! Thanks! ...G

Gil554, are you using the latest version of SoltekHM (1.26i)? It seems to work correctly for me.

Megatomic. I just reinstalled SoltekHM (1.26i) to see if the two previous times I had tried were a fluke. Its strange...in the scope of a minute the Soltek HM varies CPU temp from -10C to 86C while Speedfan 4.19 shows a constant 35C. Strange...lol I just wish I could trust one of the monitors! G

That is very strange, it displays a very steady reading on my system 43/44C idle and about 51C loaded. I wonder what's up?

I'm getting temps from 40-45C base, up to 60C under load in Speedfan and BIOS. (soltek HW and others don't show anything accurate) My case temp is clearly acceptable so I'm moving to another HSF. I've read that Zalman's CNPS7000 (a/b alcu) will fit and is cheap enough compared to the stock HSF that's installed now.

BTW, these temps weren't showing up until the beta BIOS flash but the temps are much more believable than the random numbers I previously had. (8C always on Soltek HW, BIOS temp was all over the place as well)

I am very curious as to why my particular board seems to show temp. ok yet you guys' boards do not. I am using the stock T1.2 BIOS and have done no mods to my board.

Megatomic, I a have not made any mods to the board. Other than some slight mods to compoents running at 9x224 and have the DIMM at 2.8v w/ 2-3-2-10, and OC'd the video card some. I am also running T1.2 (I believe it was from September of this year)...G

Using Speedfan I show a temp of 34 C at idle which seems reasonable, but my stock CPU HSF reads 3184 RPM, that seems low to me. WHM shows the same speed.

This is my first build, so I'm not sure. I see a lot of poeple giving numbers like 5000 for the stock HSF.

Does that speed sound about right to anyone here?

Thanks Megatomic,

When my CPU usage is approximately 60%, my CPU temp goes to about 39; again reasonable. But my CPU fan never changes speed......should it?

If I install "Cool n Quite" would that increase the fan speed when necessary or should I just not worry about.

Unless your temps are going out of control, I wouldn't wory about it. I had similar readings from speedfan when I was using the stock HSF...G

I agree with Gil, I wouldn't enable Cool n Quiet. I don't have it enabled on my own system and everything is fine as is. Matter of fact, I have heard that it can cause more problems than it cures - like systems getting "stuck" with the CPU running at a lower multiplier.

Hey guys, I have a 3400+ Clawhammer. So I lower the multi to 10, CPU Clock to 240. However, when I come to the Ram setting, it only have pre-defined speed for the ram. Is there anything I can do with the ram in order to make the whole OCing work? My ram is a Corsair Value Select.

thanks

Brule, I'm getting the exact same CPU readings you are (I think). Did changing the HSF improved your temps?

I think I misread the speedfan readings I was asking questions about earlier, I thought my CPU was reading about 35 at idle; now I believe that may have been my board reading. I think my CPU is running at about 42C at idle! When running Prime95 it shoots to 63C!

Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than me can interpret the speedfan readings.

Here's what it looks like at Idle and with Prime 95:

Idle Prime 95

Temp1 35 C 43 C
Temp2 -48 C -48 C
Temp 3 -0 C -0 C
Remote 35 C 39 C
Local 42 C 63 C
Temp 1C 1C
HD0: 30 39

Temp1, Remote, Local, and HD0 are the only ones that change. Looking at the dramatic change in Local Temp I'm assuming that's my CPU temp, and it looks really hot!

I did have to partially lift the HSF after seating it to get the clamps on, so perhaps the could be the cause. the heat sink does get hot to the touch at load so it IS transfering heat.

Would those reading this agree that Local is my CPU temp? Comparing to Everest it would appear that Temp1 is my board temp; any ideas what the Remote temp might be?

Here is what I have:

Soltek SL-K8ANZE-GR
AMD 64 3200+ (Newcastle core)
6600GT
1G Mushkin memory
300 G HD
Case with two 120mm case fans (1 front, 1 back)

What are the temp diode names (you can find it when you go to configure in speedfan) that are correlating to those names? I know this would contridict what everest tells you but it looks like temp1=CPU temp, remote= mobo, local=gpu. This may certainly not be the case but it looks logical. If you know the temp monitor used for a particular item eg. Winbond you can figure which is which. Good luck...G
