Kool, yah, I remember seeing that, aite...gonna try that...Oh and since we're on topic, what kind of cooler should I get for cpu? Right now the stock cooler ain't great, and of course if I want to o'clock more, I'm gonna have to get something better than tha stock heatsink/fan.

get either the slk800/900 or .... hmm... i can't remember what else is good.. MAN, so long since i've used a socket cooler...

I like Thermalright stuff... I have an SK-7 that works very well... the SLK-800 is newer and some people claim it works slightly better... for some reason I doubt it though.

Wasn't it just in this thread that the slk900 can't fit on the cpu cuz of the Asus mobo?

slk800 is superior to the sk-7... not that price is a measure but look at the price difference between the two...

trust me... slk800 works BETTER than the sk7

Hmm, ok, I checked prices on both, and I think I'm gonna go with the SLK800, this one: http://store.yahoo.com/svcompucycle/thslsocob.html And I'm gonna get it with this fan: http://store.yahoo.com/svcompucycle/80torfan.html Now, since I'm gonna upgrade that sh1t, do you think I should upgrade the memory also? Should I buy myself some pc3200? If I do go that route, would dual channel 256 mb sticks be better than just 1 stick of 512 mb? Or would there be like no difference? Looks like 1 stick of Corsair XMS ddr400 is 64 bones at newegg...

I just might have to pick one up with some spare cash and end all the doubts I have =)

So I was checkin' out some RAM right now. It seems that Corsair XMS is cheaper than Kingston Hyper X. So which one is the better buy? Are they probably right around the same? And what's the difference of buying the double stick package than buying 2 of the exact same stick? It seems that the double package is trying to squeeze a few bux off you. Was looking at www.googlegear.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80092-17 and also www.googlegear.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80092-1 Seems that they want you to spend an extra $4 to get the paired memory...

Just get two of the same... no need to buy "matched pairs" ... in my opinion... that's kinda like RAM sinks... 5 cents worth of metal for an extra $25... only with matched pairs, you're not even getting 5 cents worth of extra metal =)

Yah, that's what I thought i could do. And that is probably what I am going to do. Now my other part of the question wasn't answered. Is there actually a performance difference if you have dual channel memory, or if you just have 1 stick of the same size?

EDIT: Oh yah, forgot to add, I ended up getting this heatsink/fan:

http://www.svc.com/80x38fans.html

how do i get those links to work?

Dual channel will be somewhat beneficial... it's not REALLY important, but it does increase performance. I would recommend anyone who's going to be playing many games should get 1 GB of RAM, and the most cost effective way to do that is with 2x512 sticks... and if you have two sticks, it's stupid not to run in dual channel.

i'll agree with your last comment... but in terms of real life performance and stuff... i really don't think dual channel is very beneficial on a amd board.... on an intel board... YES! but on these nforce2 boards... 3-5% increase in performance...

Hmm, yah, that's what I thought. That on AMD boards, it wouldn't give that much of a significent performance increase. The lil extra does alwayz help tho. I do use my comp for gaming...dam, 2 512 mb sticks? Memory is pretty expensive nowadayz...especially I would probably get dual Corsair XMS series...dam...

If you're just gonna go with 512 MB total, then get a single 512 so you can upgrade to 1 GB later... cause I guarantee you'll want it. Windows XP itself uses about 128 MB of RAM... that leaves 384 for your games. As I said, some games are using 800 MB already.

Right, I understand what you're saying...hmm...I'm wondering if I should even upgrade my memory...right now I'm running 1 stick of 512mb pc2700 Hyper X. I want to o'clock my barton 2500+, and get the FSB to a higher setting. Don' know yet...choices, choices...maybe I should try to sell my stick of Hyper X on ebay, use that money to buy a stick of pc3200 mem (XMS or Hyper X?)...we'll see tho. Gotta check tha budge...
