ok after running my new pc which a freind built for nearly 5 months i turned it on one day to recive a nice blue screen with

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

blah blah blah

i have tried to do what it says on the micros soft website but that dont work

i have been told that it might be my sata drivers so i have tried but been not succesfull in getting the drivers running for my hd

i am running a epox ep 8kmm81 motherboard

seagate barracuda 80gb hd for c drive

maxtor diamondmax 200gb for d drive

i would prefer not to have to format the c drive if poss because it would mean 3 days worth of reinstalling my music software and plug ins

what always worked for me was booting from the xp cd and from the repair console run chkdsk /r if that doesn't do the trick I don't know what else to suggest.

the probelm occurs in 2 incidents:
(1) during WinXP Installation....or
(2) happen on an existing XP installation.

The Checkdisk /r works for the latter (2) but not the former (1).

I 've read from a Microsoft Doc that its the problem of Ultra IDE cable mismatch,
and ...or.....the IDE CACHING (such as the block mode) was enable in the BIOS.

I hope that helps
