This is a error I get one a fairly new emachine pc thats never been tampered with (sticker on case door).

So I rest to faults in bios and still no boot. Any Ideas whats wrong?

Does anyone know of a site that has a database of

" STOP 0x000000ED (0xaaaaaaaa,0xbbbbbbbb,0xcccccccc,0xdddddddd) UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME "

error messages?

....update[now it locks up the boot splash screen, the bar fills and it stops] .. going to try a repair next.

Ouch!!! "The volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems" message after running Recovery Console: "chkdsk /r". Could this be a bad sector on the harddisk (stops at 25% of chkdsk)?

update:["fixboot" didnt work either] 🙁

..... do you think Knoppix could fix this???

Seems like your drive went bad. Time to get a new hard drive and a freash install of Windows.

I hope not. The drive is a Seagate 80gig (5400 i think) model: st380020a.

And its a friends daughter pc. New nice computer, looks never used. xp, amd2000, 512ram, 80gig. Emachine.

Well you can try to checkdisk it; boot to the recovery console and you can run it from there. But, I'd tend to agree - I think the HD is dead or dying.

Do you think I could some how get in to save some photos off it??

If I used a 98bootdisk and formated and fdisked would that help??

That happened to me after enabling large system cache. NTFS partition don't seem to get along with it well. Fresh install fixed the problem. 😀
