Did you change harddrive controllers (for example move the harddrive to a new motherboard, or install a raid controller?), or did this just showup out of the blue (err, no pun intended)?

Not sure of the cause but if you have the XP cd... boot from it and choose the repair option. This will install the recovery console. From here run chkdsk /f and that should allow you to boot to windows again.

When back in windows run windows update and download the critical updates of which there is a fix for the error
