Unmountable boot volume problem

I keep getting that stop error in WInXP after reboot. I can fix it after running recovery console off the xp cd and running fixboot and chkdsk /r.

How can I prevent it from happeneing every reboot?

After I fix it everything runs fine but if I install a driver or a windows update and reboot, it comes back. Is the drive toast even though it works after running recovery?

thanks

You might try giving the drive a fresh GUID. Assuming it's the C: drive, run fdisk /mbr from a DOS boot floppy This will assign a new GUID. WinXP should pick up the change on its next startup, and enter the new GUID into its hardware database.

I appreciate the help but using fdisk/mbr can flip out the whole disk.
I can fix it once it happens I am just looking for a reason why i KEEPS happening.

Any ideas?
