Has anyone successfully unlocked the MP functions of a newer (locked) Athlon XP by closing the L5 bridges?

If so, was it stable? It sounds like this might be a simple way of getting an even higher performance dual system.

Are the faster XP's different than the slower ones? If not, then one shouldn't need to "unlock" any MP features.

Yes, apparently beginning with the AMD 2000+ chips, the L5 bridges have been "cut" preventing XPs from acting like MPs. I forget where the link is, but I have posted it in another thread somewhere on AT Forum.

It's not that the procs will be faster, but it will be cheaper. The MP procs cost more than the XPs because they are certified to work together.
