Unlocking AMD CPUs

I have an XP and a T-Bird to unlock. I know how to do it but I have two questions.

1) I know that you can use the pencil trick to unlock it, but I'm a bit hesitant to do so. Can I use AS3 instead and connect the contacts like with the XP since it is conductive?

2) After unlocking both the processors, I want to, as a saftey device, put a material on top of the bridges to ensure that nothing happens to it. Something to seal the work area. Like some tape to cover the L1 bridge. Can I use tape, and what other materials can I use/do you recommend?

No, AS3 is not conductive. It will not work for unlocking your processor. I suggest either using a pen with conductive ink, or the conductive paint found in the Loctite rear window defogger repair kit.

Thanks for the reply. I had some AS3 left over and heard about frying the CPU if you get AS3 all over so I thought it was conductive. I guess I'll pick up some silver laquer or window defogger.

Anyone on the second question?

I dont see any harm in using tape, as my processors have labels on them from the OEM which states Void if removed, and they have resided there for 6 months without problems. You prolly could use a non conductive fingernail polish or laquer to seal them too.

Thanks for the fast replies guys. I was going to go to the hardware store tomorrow to pick up the supplies to do this, now I know what to get.
