what should i get? i have no idea what's good and what's not, aside from a bit of research and reviews. i'd greatly like a touchscreen and wi-fi, but they're not required if the phone is super worth it for other reasons. any suggestions?

phones i've been looking at:
Samsung Star
Samsung S5560
Nokia 5230 (no wi-fi, sort of a fallback phone)

i'll be upgrading from a nokia 5310. any help? i'll be using the phone on t-mobile's prepaid service.

Your best bet is to get a used but mint 3G iphone on Craisglist.
Plenty of them for under $200.
As much as I hate Apple, I would go this route by far if I was in your position.

Keep an eye on Dell. They put the Nokia E7x's on sale quite often. Not sure if they are low enough to fit in your budget but I think they are close. They are BB formfactor and very solid phones.

I love the Nokia blackberry style phones too and would recommend it but he said he would greatly like a touchscreen.

I've narrowed it down, resulting in a great dilemma. It's between the Nokia 5530 and the Samsung S5620. Both are near each other in price. The contrast between the two phones is pretty slight. The Nokia 5530 has a QWERTY touch keyboard, whereas the S5620 doesn't. It also seems to have a nicer UI. Both have Wi-Fi. My only gripe is that the Nokia is about a year older than the Samsung. Does time matter that much?
