Hii

I have AMD athlon II x3 (tricore?) and an ASUS motherboard.

When I boot up it always says to press "4" to unlock core, so today I decided to see what is was about and pressed it.

It rebooted and when I checked CPU-Z the name of CPU changed to Phenom II X4 and I suppose I unlocked it...

I was wondering if any further steps I need to complete the unlocking process? It seemed too easy...:)

temperature reading from HWmonitor using TMPIN0,1,2 seems the same as before.

thanks!:D

do you have to press it every time you boot up? You might need to go into the BIOS to enable it permanently.

Run a few stress tests and benchmarks so that you can be sure you're using all the instructions available on the chip. Someone else can chime in for this-- for now just try prime95 and tell us if it locks up within 1 minute. If it doesn't, you're probably good!

Post us a CPU-Z screenshot. And yeah, look for a way to do a semi-permanent unlock in the BIOS.

But CPU-Z should tell you how many cores you're running.

Prime95 Blend would be a good step too.

You should, it's the only way to insure that your CPU / new core is running properly.

If its not 24hour prime stable i would not consider it stable at all.

I've run prime95 for 7 days straight before just to make sure of 100% stability and to see what long term thermals looked like.

If you don't want to run Prime95 for 24 hours, try LinX for 3 hours instead. But yes, from the looks of it, you've got a genuine unlock there. However, you didn't get any L3 (aw shucks).
