I currently have an iPhone 4 in my possesion that is for ATT. I want to unlock it for T-Mobile. Baseband 04.12.01 and it is on update 5.1.1 (9B206). iClarified said its not possible but those paid companies said it is. Which is it?

I believe it can be done but it will probably be expensive, and the iPhone 4 is ancient. You sure you want to stick with that phone?

It's not for me its for a coworker. Why would it be any more expensive then back in the day? It's got old software.

If you have an ATT account you can just ask them to unlock it for free. There a form on their website to fill out.

Yes it can be unlocked (any phone can). The pay companies are getting the code from att somehow. Iclarified was probably talking about a software unlock.

The unlocks for iPhones are more expensive not because att closed some of the loopholes for getting codes. So on eBay they cost $50-80? They used to cost $5-10.

Wow iOS sucks if this old of a version doesn't have a software unlock. I'll have to ask the coworker if she can do it that way. She got it from her mom.

I've been away from the iPhones for a while but they used to use iTunes to unlock it for you for like $2-3 back in the days.
Is it that expensive now ??
