I can't tell if this is with SSL connection or not. I have been using a Non-SSL NewsDemon account for years and have been very pleased with their service and retention.

Thanks OP.

I ditched Astra last time a similar deal came available and couldn't tell a difference between the two. I was paying $11 a month through Astra so while the savings wasn't much it adds up over time(been using Usenet for over three years).

The last deal through NewsDemon found here allowed for SSL downloads and SSL postings which was nice but I had to ask for permission before I could post discussions. Kind of an annoyance but they didn't question it to much. Overall though I'm really happy with NewsDemon and plan on sticking with them for now.

All that being said I think this is a referral post. I'm kinda leery on how it skips the "select plan tab" and goes straight to the billing info tab. When you click the change plan button on the bottom right this "deal" isn't on the page.

I need another cheap block deal. I like to keep one or two smaller block premium service accts for fill and use the cheap ones with big blocks for primary.

Easynews. 10$ and has a web interface. Must have for me as i do general searches and want it already indexed on the server. Newsgroups are a pain without it IMO. All files are searchable, un-rared yenc removed....all that junk. No extra work. You can search on the final binary, not just the posts or group, and it can search across ALL newsgroups. I can't stand using an external client. Worth the extra 5$.

But it gives you 20 gigs a month, something to consider if you need to dl a lot. Also their retention sucks unless you get the $30 plan.

If someone missed out on the NewsDemon deal here is another Highwinds deal WITH SSL:

http://newsgroupdirect.com/unlimited-usenet-deal

Seems Highwinds is desperate for users. I will say I picked this one up and I am seeing faster speeds than my old Astra account (20 vs 50 connections) and the service seems pretty comparable otherwise. Might drop the Astra and invest on a larger Tweaknews bucket for backup.

You should drop Astra and stay with Highwinds. I did a couple months back and havn't noticed a single difference. Well the price I pay every month is different but thats it.:awe:
