Basically, the Walmart Connect dialin service uses the Compuserve 2000 interface. It's basically identical, except it says "Walmart Connect" instead of "Compuserve 2000". Plus, you get a FREE trial month, and if you call in to cancel they'll give you an additional 2 months free.

The access speeds I got were always pretty high on my dad's laptop, and this ISP is really good for travelling because they have local numbers everywhere.
 
Anyone know if you can connect via Windows DUN or do you have to use their dialer?

I ask because if you can use DUN it's a hot deal for me. Most <$19.95 ISP's have a TOS that, although unlimited, restricts you to 4-8hrs consecutive and <150hrs per month. The Terms here don't call for that.



 
you could always sign up for the free month dman and find out, my experience is that you usually can, might require a special username in DUN like username@walnet or something though
 
wow this is HOT for my Dad... he's still on dialup as he travels frequently. right now he's on Earthlink $10/mo for 10 hrs plus $1/hr after... this is WAY WAY better!!

Or you could go with a nationwide UUnet access (the same backbone many other carriers use) for $8.99 a month, or less.
Been with them for over a year, no problems connecting. I even use this ISP for my Kyocera smartphone for mobile email.

Yeah, I know there's a workaround that allows you to connect via only the DUN... Get the free month and then fool around with it and see what you can do.

Basically, you have to make a log file that shows what info your modem sends to the ISP... then you can see what your "true" username and password are and just configure DUN for it.
 
Wow! That is a good deal Sept1967! Except, if I'm not mistaken, you have to CHOOSE one number and pay for only THAT ONE NUMBER. So for $1 more a month you get the ability to travel around the U.S. using differnet numbers. That's why this Walmart Connect is a good deal.
 
They ask you to download their setup program, which is wmsetup.exe, 251,552 bytes. A search for embedded strings in this file finds:

"America Online, Inc."

"Software\America Online\AOJ"
 
Nope. You can use any number on their system from any point.

I live in the Fresno area, and have all of these just for in town. I can use any of them I want, or other areas if they are local to me. I printed out the complete CALIF list, and I use any local number to which town Im in. A couple of them are V.92 also, which alot of other ISP's dont use yet.

Well, for the FIRST month of service you don't pay for internet access... and they give you 700 hours to use in that month. After that it's unlimitied, but you pay $9.94/month, instead of it being free.

700 hours is 29.16667 days... so basically it's just an advertising trick

I've been also using access4less.net for a short time. The service has been reliable and I have not had a single busy signal. I signed up through a link found on here a couple months ago (props to the original poster). $6/month and no setup fee using this link. For those of us still stuck with dialup it is a good deal.

I always connect at 50k+.

A few of my local numbers will connect at 52,xxx. I switch around to see which ones connect better, on a regular basis. But I rarely connect at anything less then 50,xxx. I just might be closer to the switching station, and/or have good land lines.

I have a USR Performance Pro PCI modem.


Yeah its slow, but cheap. I have a T3 at work, and do any big downloading there.
