Unknown Processor

Hello all,

I recently purchased an ECS KA3 MVP motherboard and an AMD 6400+ Black Edition processor. The BIOS that comes on the motherboard does not support this processor, but there is an update for support. So tell me:

How in the world do I update this board without buying another processor that is supported by the preloaded BIOS? This seems silly to me to have this problem. Can anybody help?

Thanks,

Erik

Buying a BIOS Chip preloaded with the most current BIOS for that board...
I believe their is no solution to your problem other than that or buying another processor (could even be the cheapest crappiest POS on the face of earth it just needs to be supported).

Did you actually try the 6400+ or are you just going by published info? I would expect it to work well enough to allow you to update the BIOS.

Listen to Mondoman. If it'll get thru the bios boot screen, then you can very likely update the bios to get full support for the processor....

I actually ended up RMAing the board becasue I could never get it to POST after the first attempt. I was able to get into the BIOS but then it restarted and would randomly boot but not let me into the BIOS. This board comes with a Top Hat Flash chip, and when I would try that I would see the BIOS post with an "unknown processor" message.

I guess I assumed that this was part of the problem, but it could also have been related to the fact that I used the thermal paste that came with the Zalmann fan I bought, and I don't think it worked very well. I bought some arctic silver, so we wil see what happens when I get the replacement motherboard and processor.

Thanks for the thoughts...

Erik
