Unknown Disk Utility

whenever i try to run Norton scandisk or speeddisk or for that matter......microsoft defragmenter or scandisk on my 'C' drive, the error message, "Access to disk denied becaseu it is been used by a disk utility"...wat is this utility and how do i disable it?
i mean..i shut off all the antivirus and all programs..and still it comes.....this problem started just after i removed and uninstalled my creative CD-RW?
any suggestions?

Did you previously use a disc compression utility on the hard drive?

If you've disabled all utilities on the toolbar, try 'control - Alt - Delete' to see whats actually running.....if you haven't already.

Start you computer in safe mode by tapping F8 while when your computer starts booting. That you know no apps are running in the background. I always use this method before using scan disk or disk defragmenter.

well............i never used disc compre before..........when i oress ctrl alt del........nothng except systary and explorer is running......

Use safemode or run MSCONFIG and, under the startup tab, uncheck anything you don't need. Not all things checked under startup will show in 9x task mgr.

okie..ill try that......btw....i ran safe mode and when i tried to defrag.....something about invalid hard disk partions popped up....( i have partioned my one drive into 2.........d works finr but the c drive is the one having problems).......and it asks me to fix and also says to backup ALL data.......but since i have this immense hard drive.......should i just move all my c stuff to the d drive?
is that ok?
