I have just put together a pretty cheap intel/via system:
Biostar M6VCF Motherboard w/ VIA 694X (VIA Apollo Pro 133A) Chipset
- agp, 2 PCI, 1 AMR slot, onboard ac 97 sound -
P3 1.0ghz fc-pga retail boxed
256megs pc133 ram (1 stick)
geforce2 ti200 agp video 23.11 drivers
adaptec 2940UW pci SCSI
aopen PCI 10/100 NIC
seagate cheetah 4.5gig scsi hard drive
plextor 40max SCSI cd drive
300watt PS
nothing in AMR slot, will put an AMR modem in later tonight
Upon installing win2k, getting into the first desktop after install, I am prompted to install drivers for a device called "MEDIA" by win2k, it could not find any drivers on my motherboard's cd of drivers, so I have just told win2k not to bug me about it anymore at startup and disable the device for now, so I have went through and installed the drivers for my onboard sound, all the windows updates that were available (service pack2 etc,) and the VIA 4.37 final drivers. I still have no clue what this device is, but it is located under "Sound, video and game controllers" in Device Manager with a yellow question mark, (because no drivers), the weird thing is that there is also two "Standard Gameport" 's listed, one also with a yellow mark, and one that works fine! Does anyone have any clue what this device is? Everything else works fine and this system is pretty good, I just want to get rid of these exclamation marks. I have been to the Biostar website and looked around for downloads that could help, but nothing seems to work. Do I really need to enable Sound Blaster, and MP-101 (not exact number i know, but for MIDI emulation stuff right?) in the BIOS to have the ac 97 codec work properly in windows?
