I just installed a AMD Athlon XP Barton 3000+ on my pc. WHen i boot it up I see Unknown Cpu Type, and i see 1.7 GHz instead of 2.1 GHz. Does anyone know the reason. If so plz reply

Thanks

If I had to take a wild guess I'd say that your motherboard doesnt support it so it runs it at 333 FSB instead of the original 400, underclocks it by around 17%. If the motherboard supports 400MHz FSB, you just need to raise the FSB to 400 to get to your correct clock speed, if not then you'd need a new motherboard, I think.

FSB is set to 133 and not the 166MHz it should be (IIRC for that chip), so you need to change a jumper to 166MHz from 133MHz. Or your mobo may not support it and need a BIOS update.

thanks for the reply.
Lonyo how would i set my FDB to 166MHz i have no idea how to change it.

When posting, hit the "del" key to enter the bios. Look for a section titled "frequency and voltage control" or "advanced settings". If not, just check each section until you find the "cpu fsb". Change it to 166 and use F10 (save and exit).

If you want an answer to your question.............then post some spec's .......motherboard make, model, and revision.....or If you have a store bought 'puter....then a make and model.

Or, if you are just looking for hints...........Furen and Lonyo have the best guess.
