.sif can be either Windows NT Setup File and Autodesk Spatial Index File

Expander didn't work? It's made by Aladdin Systems who also makes the Stuffit program that creates those files. I've used it many times and have never had a problem with it. It usually works automatically but sometimes can place the files in a different location. Did you check the settings?

Was the file an .smi or .img format by any chance? If it's .smi try double clicking on it if possible. Where did you get the file or what is the file supposed to be?

Is it supposed to be a game for Windows because Stuffit is more of a Mac-head favorite?

I'm not a gamer so I'm not familiar with game file formats. I'm thinking that you may need to open it with the full version of Stuffit. I believe there are a few extensions that Stuffit handles that Expander doesn't. Stuffit will both pack and unpack files whereas Expander only unpacks them. I'm not sure if that's the problem though. Perhaps Vespasion or someone familiar with game formats would have additional ideas.
