<< I need step by step installation procedure for UNIX 8. I tried their web site. Found lots of stuff but NOT easy to understand for newbie like me.
I have been trying to install it in 233mmx with 64 ram system (intel chip). It goes through couple of steps like hardware detection, language, and takes me to fdisk. I have created fdisk partition, but was unable to format it. System msg was that I need to use some other utility to format the disk. Even though partion is done through the Unix 8 not 3rd party software.

Any solution???

Thanks in advance.

Unix 8? Do you mean Solaris, Irix, Free BSD, Linux, RedHat, Mandrake...? I assume you're talking about Sun Solaris 8?!?

Nothing, it's just that they don't know. 🙂

I don't either. Never messed with Solaris on an install. I know shuxclams has though.

Its not me that is installing Solaris but one of my forum members needed help. I have tried sending a couple of email to my friends but so far nobody seems to know about it.

Sorry for the delay. There's a pretty good usenet newsgroup for Solaris x86: alt.solaris.x86

I do know that you need to make a partition for the solaris OS, and then the OS will further divide this into "slices". Any fdisk (dos, solaris/sun supplied, etc) should work. What do your partitions look like now?
