University of Phoenix is not accredited for MOST of the degrees they offer which means your degree is the equivalent of garbage to many employers.

The major complaints with the University of Phoenix are as follows:

# Lack of Professional Accreditation for Most Degrees
# "Boiler Room" Recruiting Practices
# Use of Spam to Recruit
# Misrepresentations and False Guarantees by Recruiters, Counselors, and Financial Aid
# Poor Customer Service
# Poor Quality of Instruction
# Poor Technology Infrastructure
# Poor Quality of Classmates
# Financial Aid Carelessness
# General Lack of Respect for the Customer (Student)
# Education Does Not Meet Federal Guidelines
# Abysmal Graduation Rates

Well that's an unbiased source if I've ever seen one. I would rely 100% on their opinions.

Ya I saw that site and had the exact same reaction Slsmnaz did. That's why I came here to see what ATOT thought.

Honestly most employers look at your resume and see that you have a BS. Some may go as far as to see what college you went to...that's about it. I inquired to many employers about which schools they rather hire from and which one they would steer clear from. All I got were deer in headlight looks.
I disagree, I am a hiring manager at a mid sized IT firm and if I saw a UoP degree of any sort on an application it would make me laugh and if anything I would think less of the candidate for it. I would look better upon an AA from a community college or pretty much anywhere else. There is no way you can learn the same amount online as you can from a real classroom environment. It seems like you are fighting people here tooth and nail for any reason you can think of to go to UoP. I think deep inside you know this school sucks and you will sorely miss the money spent. I would not attend this university even if it was 10,000 for a 4yr degree, please be reasonable.

While the site that was linked above is biased, most of the stuff they tell you is true. Many employers look down upon UOP (unless it's a nursing degree I think...). UNLV is a better (and much, much cheaper) college.

My girlfriend is a nurse and I would be amazed absolutely amazed if any place would accept a nursing degree from UoP, so much of their work and training is hands on that it is simply impossible to learn it online, I would think UoP would be taken to court for mistakes their nursing students made on the job from lack of training.

Although I agree with you about UoP, I have to disagree with you regarding online courses. Most colleges programs that can be completed entirely online. Now of course, I am sure this is subject specific, but there are many course/majors that would not require in-class attendance. Subjects such as business, finance, and accounting can all be taught online; I fail to see how sitting in a classroom would benefit a student studying such a subject any better than a student sitting in front of a computer at home. Of course, it all depends on the student and his/her discipline and most effective learning method, which varies with everybody.

When I was in college there was a few online courses available which I took. BUT all of them required 3-4 classroom sessions a semester so even then they werent completely online. Also, I did feel like I learned less in those online courses than most of my standard in classroom courses. It is not the sitting in the classroom that is teaching you. It is the instructor being right there for an hour giving his/her expert training in theie speciality that also interactively answers questions and allows a 'true' learning environment.

Right, and I'm not doubting the fact that you had a better learning experience in the classroom with an instructor in front of you. But there are different learning methods that may be more effective for one student than for another student. One student may do well in a classroom because he/she needs the instructor in front of them explaining things. Other student might not get anything out of traditional in-class lectures, and may do better learning on their own at home through textbooks and online materials. Every student is different, so to say that one learning method is ultimately more effective than another would be the same as saying that student A is the same as student B.

Personally, I do better in class than I do online. I like to sit in the front row to focus on the instructor. On the contrary, one of my friends would sit in class and day dream play on the internet. He just couldnt focus in class and he would end up learning the material on his own at home. He actually got better grades than I did.

That I agree with. Of course one could argue that since it's not an obvious State college that it has to find a way to advertise itself. I could do with a little less spam though lol.

i dont think ive ever gotten an email from UofP. i do have a friend getting her masters there tho, and have a bunch of friends i went to college with that went there to get their teaching certs. i never thought off it as a scam degree, especially after seeing what my best friend is going thru to get her masters. they arent giving her anything, shes working her ass off for it.
