I got a C+ in one of my classes, I never missed a class and lowest mark I received out of any project or exercise was 71. How does one go about challenging a mark / can you ?

I'm guessing that I just go and talk to the prof.

Send him a message and ask him if you can meet to talk about your grade. You will need to bring all your work that was handed back, likes assignments, tests, projects, etc. It could be that he simply didn't record a grade for you, or recorded one incorrectly. However, if you check and everything is square, don't bitch.

if you think it's something particularly unfair you could take it to the administration...

there should be a mechanism set up for grade challenges

also, be sure to challenge pretty soon after getting the grade, there's usually a deadline and the longer you wait the more trouble it is for the prof to change the grade

Whenever I see your posts, I think you're starting one of those R-E-P-O-S-T replies.

You may not be considering everything. What was your mean score over all class components? The usual cut-off points are 90%, 80%, 70% etc. But, even that is not set in stone. When I attended the MBA program at Wisconsin, cut-off percentages were 83+ for B and 93+ for an A. As an earlier post stated, at my school, a 71 is barely a C-.

here's a secret. You can get that grade changed to an A thus improving your gpa and it will have no impact on your life the moment you leave school.

go talk to the prof first, if you don't get anywhere with that and you really feel you were poorly graded, talk to the department chair of that division of the univ, a lot of schools have a 'review process' where your grade would go to a panel (usually other prof's in that division) and as a department they would decide, 95% of the time they side with the prof, but if ite legitimate they might judge in favor of you

Like everyone has said, talk to your professor. He might be missing a grade.
Talking to them always works.

To note, he said a 71 was his lowest grade, not his average.

However also, you don't state what you think your average was. I like to point
out isn't grade school, you don't get points for showing up. You should attend all your
classes regardless. Showing up shouldn't improve your grade.

However I would also ask, if this class on a straight 10 point scale. I have had
classes were 83 was a C+.

I would just go and talk with your professor, and ask him why he gave you a C+
because you thought you were going to get/deserved a higher mark. Alot of the
times professors will explain there reasoning on why they felt you deserved the
mark they gave you, or can understand why you might deserve a higher grade.

He said the lowest mark was a 71. But he didn't say if all his other grades were substantially higher.
If you got a 71 and a bunch of 79's, then yeah, you get a c+.
But if you got a 71 and a bunch of 90's, then you got screwed.

Talk to your professor and see exactly what your scores were for all assignments and how the final grade was calculated.

Don't jump through the chain of command, all it does is piss people off. At least try to resolve this with your professor first.
