Here's an article on a jackass representative from Louisiana, John Cooksey.

IMHO, Bush/Ashcroft should single out ignorant people in power like Cooksey and make an example of them.

I agree with Cooksey. I also think that anyone who pronounces onion, "OnYon" should be made to squeal like a pig before getting anally raped in the swamp.

It means the congressman is too stupid to form coherent sentences, so the editor/reporter had to put it in himself so educated Americans would know what he's talking about...

The use of brackets -> [...] around a word in a quote means that the author has edited the quote to put it in context.

example:

What was said: "Me and him went down to the 7-11"

Newspaper: "Me and [Bubba Smith] went down to the 7-11"

Bubba's name would be put in because you are only getting part on the conversation and you don't know who he is talking about.
 
And the nature of that edit frequently extends to removing parts of the quote in order to dramatize the point. In addition, without the preceding portion of the conversation, the sentence is clearly taken out of context.

The point being that, while we obviously have a moron representing LA, it is very easy for an author to make somebody look just about any way they choose.

It appears some people are saying it's being over dramatized. I don't know if doubting his comments is the intention though.
 
Oh, I'm sure the idiot said it. He has a long history of stupidity. Unfortunately, that state seems to have an epidemic of it among their politicians. I'm just trying to point out that we should never just take everything we read at face value.

The press, NONE of them, are ever completely accurate, EVER.

I know from personal experience just how easy it is to manipulate an article or column to achieve a pre-defined agenda. I've been on both sides of that fence.

Sorry, the congressman's comment needs no extra drama to prove the point that he is as unamerican as the terrorists who attacked the WTC.
