United Sued for WTC Hijacking Attack

<< NEW YORK (Reuters) - The widow of a New Hampshire man who was a passenger on the United Air Lines flight that slammed into the World Trade Center filed on Thursday what is believed to be the first suit against an airline stemming from the Sept. 11 attacks.

The wrongful death suit, filed in Manhattan federal court, alleges that United breached its duty to care for the safety of the passengers on Flight 175. The suit filed by Ellen Mariani, whose husband, Louis, was killed in the attack, seeks unspecified damages.

The Nolan Law Group, the Chicago firm that filed the suit, said it believed this was the first action against an airline seeking to hold it liable for the hijacking.

Louis Mariani, a 59-year-old retired sales coordinator at H.P. Hood, died when the plane hit Tower Number Two of the World Trade Center. The suit alleged that he suffered severe fright and terror before dying in the crash.

A spokesman for United said the airline does not comment on pending litigation.

Honestly, while I feel bad for her loss, I don't believe suing the airline is the best option. No amount of money will make up for the loss of her husband.

Great! She sues! They all sue! Next thing you know, there is no airline industry and millions are out of work.

I feel bad for her, but that's selfish too. No one saw this coming. While she's at it, sue the CIA or FBI!

... what's sad is what people will do for money. I agree with you that the money won't bring back her husband but hell, it seems like she's milkin this one for all its worth. grrr

Exactly. Kick an already ailing airline while their down, and try and claim that THEY are responsible for acts of terrorism, and at the end of the day, it STILL won't bring her husband back, or bring any terrorist closer to just or in any way repair the wounds that have been caused.

And if she wins, even more United employees lose their jobs b/c it's that much more capital that the airline loses.

I bet she tried to make a bundle on insurance claims, too.

I say we have an ATOT class-action seeking damages from this chick for being an insult to the civilized world.

my god... if i ever see this woman on the street, i will slap her till her face turns red...

greedy slut... omg.. my husband died, now i cant pay my bills....so lets make united pay.

go get a job, worthless whore....

the airlines arent responsible for things out of their control.

If she wins, can any United employee that loses their job sue her for the suffereing her stupid lawsuit brought on them?

Same stupid logic she's using to start this lawsuit would suggest they could use it right back at her, but she probably wouldn't like that....

NEW YORK (Jzeros) United Airlines filed suit against the late husband of Ellen Mariani allegeing that Louis Mariani breached his duty to not fly on planes that are going to be hijacked by insane criminals and crashed into skyscrapers. A spokesman for United said "That'll learn you."

I suffered "severe fright and terror" the night that I saw Dennis Franz's ass on NYPD Blue but you don't see me suing Steven Bochco because of it.

Gruff, but I agree wholeheartedly! The people on those planes were the victims, as were the airlines themselves. They were all the victims of cowardly terrorism because first their property (planes) were stolen and then their employees and customers were all killed. But in her twisted mind, I guess it makes sense to blame the victims.

If this money-grubbing b*tch is walking down the street and gets raped, I wonder how she's going to manage to sue herself?

Not only do I hope she loses the case, I hope that people recognize her as the selfish, greedy sub-human that she is for the rest of her parasitic life. I'm sure even her husband would be appalled at her actions.

:|

I sincerely feel for her; hopefully I will never feel her pain.

Unfortunately, is it worth screwing over thousands of hard-working individuals so she can reak some sort of vindication?

IF SHE REALLY loved her husband, money should not bring her comfort OR grief.

If she does go forth with it, she should spread the money around to families where MOM AND DAD BOTH didn't come home on Sept. 11th.

Some people in my opinion prove there faults time and time again. Still, God keeps them here for a reason.

If my loved one parished, I would dedicate my life to making sure others who are worse off than I am could get help, and work to PREVENT a tragedy...

Not bankrupt the airline industry for "meaninless revenge"

Those who have lost something close to their hearts, still have their hearts to keep them comfort. 😛

DERRY, N.H. (AP) - A woman whose husband died aboard one of the jetliners that slammed into the World Trade Center sued the airline Thursday, alleging company negligence led to the Sept. 11 hijacking.

Ellen Mariani of Derry filed the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the southern district of New York. Her husband, Louis Mariani, 58, was a passenger on UAL Corp.'s (UAL: down $0.70 to $12.45, Research, Estimates) United Airlines Flight 175, the second plane to hit the center.

The couple were taking separate flights to California to attend the wedding of Ellen Mariani's daughter.

Initially, Louis Mariani had planned to stay home, thinking it was too expensive for both of them to go. But his wife raised money through yard sales to buy him a surprise ticket so he could see his stepdaughter walk down the aisle.

Mariani's lawyer, Don Nolan, said in a statement that the airline had a duty to "exercise the highest degree of care" for safety and should have stopped the hijackers from boarding the plane. The statement did not elaborate on what Nolan thinks the airline should have done differently.

Nolan said Mariani has decided not to apply for money from the federal Victims Compensation Fund, which is open only to those families who agree not to sue anyone for damages.

"Mrs. Mariani doesn't want the taxpayers' money," he said. "She wants her day in court with United Airlines."

Officials at United Airlines could not immediately be reached for comment Thursday. The phone line was busy at the airline's corporate offices in Chicago.

Well I hope she feels better when she puts a bunch of United workers on the streets. What a sue happy moron.

Nolan Law Group, the Chicago firm that filed the suit

Um but she lives in New Hampshire? Is United based in Chicago? Are these lawyers a bunch of ambulance chasers that took the list of the victims and went trolling for business.

As I like to say. To many lawyers, not enough deep lakes.
.

<< thinking it was too expensive for both of them to go. But his wife raised money through yard sales >>

Designed, of course, to tug at the heart strings of the jury and the public.

<< should have stopped the hijackers from boarding the plane. >>

And, be lambasted by the PC Police and sued for "racial profiling".

It is not the woman who should be slapped here, it is the lowlife, scumbag, ambulance chasing attorney who is trying to extract ill-gotten fees from the pain and suffering of thousands of victims and their families. United, PLEASE do not settle this case. Fight it!

Russ, NCNE

Why am I not surprised?

Why not a civil lawsuit against Bin Ladin and a lawsuit against the construction company that built the WTC because it was in the way of the planes? How about sueing the media for televising it and causing her grief and torment...where do we stop peoples?

<----wishes somebody would stop beating people with the retarded stick

Well I hope she ends up with a big fat ZERO.
