On a side note... my uncle is into little things like this. He has countless Zippo's, flashlights, knives, and a rather large gun collection. My mom's car burned to the ground on the side of the highway on our way back from Philadelphia near Pittsburg (I'm in the Detroit area)... my dad loved the car and hated to see it go up in flames. My uncle bought him a Zippo lighter, had a finish put on it so it looks burned, and had the lisence plate number of that car engraved in it, lol.

Do a Google search on "trench lighter." I believe that is the name of the design, which originated in the era of World War I if I recall correctly. Looks like one of many reproductions that have been done of the design.

Ahhh... cool... I see they were probably originally made from bullets and shells. I'll probably keep this one around, but rarely use it.
I'm pretty sure my uncle also has a real Zippo (not immitation) from WWI with some dude's "name, rank, and serial number" on it... with the division (or whatever you call it) he was with on the other side. Would probably bring a pretty penny on eBay but I don't think he'd sell it. Wonder if I can get a picture of it from him...

Yeah, looks like a trench lighter to me.

 

It's a WW1+2 trench lighter.
My grandfather's from the war is still in the family possession.

Cool... nice bit of family history to pass down through generations. Just make sure it doesn't get in the hands of someone young who'd rather have a couple hundred bucks from someone on eBay than the lighter.

I doubt mine's that old... it's too shiny =) Unless the guy who owned it got killed before he got a chance to use it, lol.

It won't ever get sold. The lighter is definatly time tarnished and dirty, but it still works when flint and fuel are put in.
