It's very easy to take the faceplate off of a CDROM and use black vinyl dye to paint it black. That's how I got a black Pioneer slot loader.

I dont think you need anything, the DVD rom in addition to your plextor would be a nice setup. You could get the NEC burner instead of the dvdrom,or use your current dvd recorder, and use it in place of the dvdrom. Since you have the plextor dvdr already, you have the best.

Certain drives perform better for certain tasks, et al safe disk2/psx/dae/dvd etc.

I would use my plex/existing drive for a while, and if i didnt like the setup, re-evaluate. I dont think you will need to change, unless one of them is weak in dvd ripping.

Steven the Leech,

I could get the Samsung SD-616, for $29 for my dvd-rom drive. CDR Info rated it well with the Asus DVD-E616P2 and the Lite-On 167T. What got my vote was the price and 3year warranty by the manufacture ! That's a win win situation, with price and support. The Lite-On was a year, not sure about the Asus or that would be my choice if it had a simular warranty period. And you're right, with the Plextor, I would be sitting pretty with this combo ! Thanks for the great assist ! I found the Maxtor DiamondMax 10 300gb hdd at Zipzoomfly for $186.50. There's a $50 rebate thru Redzuco that makes this bu, too good to pass up ! Oh yeah, it's a bare drive (oem) with 3 year warranty from the factory !
